VoiceAttack Listening toggle question

I just downloaded the demo. I'm trying to get the app to stop listening when I hold my joystick PTT so commands will not execute while voice chatting.

In the main options I enabled JS1
Joystick Button Recognition:
Clicked the button to program the feature
Checked Enable Keyboard Global Hotkey
Selected the VoiceAttack stops listening while buttons are down
Pressed the JS button I use for PTT
Result: The correct button press is shown on the screen.
Clicked OK at the bottom

Result: VA still executes voice commands within E:D while the JS button is held down.

I also tried setting this same option in my active user profile (push not listen) with the same result.

I also tried setting my active profile option "Override listening if my spoken command begins with" by checking the option and entering a word.
In the display the word is understood and displayed properly, but the listening mode remains active, any command phrase gets activated in E:D
regardless of speaking the override word or not.

Tips?:

You're going about it wrong.

  1. Click on the Edit Profile button
  2. Click on the New Command button
  3. Type what you want to say to make VoiceAttack go to sleep. Something like Go to sleep
  4. Choose the Other button.
  5. On the Special Action menu choose Make VoiceAttack stop listening
  6. click Ok until you are back at the edit profile page
  7. Click on the New Command button
  8. Type what you want to say to make VoiceAttack start listening. Something like Wake up
  9. Choose the Other button.
  10. On the Special Action menu choose Make VoiceAttack start listening
  11. Click Ok until you are back at the edit profile page.
  12. Click Done

Now when you say go to sleep the program will stop listening. Well, it will continue listening but will take no action until it hears the wake up command.

Appreciate your response. What you propose is a lot more complicated than what the manual seems to indicate.
I knew I was doing something wrong, but it would help me to know what procedure to use to get what I wanted right.

I do not want the sleep/wake up to be a voice command, but a joystick button that sleeps while held down.
A voice command will cause problems while using voice chat like Ventrillo.

It was not intuitive, but using a variation of the proposed idea, I configured through "Other" a JS button to stop listening.
Seems like it's a uniqueness to controller buttons they also have an Up state command, not just a "I'm not being pressed any more" state.
For some reason, VA starts listeining again as soon as I let go of the button without programming a "listen" command which is just what I want.
Thanks.

In all honesty, what Kelly suggested is a good option and what most of us use. It takes a few seconds to setup. I often use voice comms, or have other people in the room. I'll say 'Thanks' or 'Standby' or many other phrases, ASTRA goes into offline mode until I'm ready to talk to her again. To wake her up I simply say ASTRA or wake up, focus etc.. Nothing complicated and it works flawlessly.

Anyway, glad you got it configured how you want.

Voice attack has an option to listen out for a voice command before acting on a programmed response see my reply in this thread so no button press required,
this is especially good if you want to use voice come as you can chat away without activating VA unless you say a particular phrase or word
