Voiced comms from stations/npcs

I know its probably not to be propritized but when receiving docking clearence or denial/receiving messages from NPCs and such events, it would be nice if the messages where actual recorded voice coms. Just to give a breath of life to the game.

"Commander, this is Pipon Orbital traffic control, your request is denied as pads are currently full. Wait while traffic clears up, thank you"

"Commander, idle your thrusters and wait for our scan to finish…
…Thank you for your cooperation, you are cleared to move along"

If made with whatever modern text-to-voice software someone posted about a while ago, it would be even easier to implement and there wouldnt be need to record separate lines dealing with certain names and places, we would get a fully dynamic voice system, easily randomized to let npcs speak with different voices, and it would make the game all the more interesting imo!

I'd be happy to do some voice acting for free. Just send me the scripts and I'll get stuck in! Do you think it would spoil emersion if many systems had a Yorkshire accent?

Yes, this is where the game can take a page out of Freelancer's playbook.

- Random radio conversations between NPCs
- Player able to hail NPCs and they would verbally respond in some way.
- Notification from pirates/police that you were being scanned.
- Stations responding to your docking request

Having radio communication made the game seemed so much more dynamic and alive. It's seriously worth considering for ED, as player to player/player to environment interaction is dreadfully lacking at this stage.

Voice porting comms effects would be great to have as well.

What is voice porting? - watch the video below - listen and discover joy of voice porting

Voice porting - 2008 tech demo video from Interstellar Marines -

(watch from 12:40 minutes onwards)

Voice porting comms effects and 3d audio placement. Zero Point Software (Interstellar Marines) who coined the phrase 'voice porting', are planning on implementing voice porting hopefully next year. The tech demo video below was created on UE3 engine. The new Unity game engine should be better according to ZPS.

Just imagine what FD could do with this now, with today's and tomorrows software.

The voice porting like was shown in the video is already being done. Atleast in the since of player to player voice comms. There was much more static when near a star and such than in a station for my friend and I. I would love to see more NPC voice overs like they said. It would be cool to have the above video but we dont need echoing in space! Might be neat for when they do walking in stations though... Hmmm.

Well yeah of course, voice porting effects would all be relative to where you are and the person is speaking to you. If your in small cockpit then let the comms effects reflect that, if your in a larger cockpit... and so on.
