Void Opals rings

Allegedly it's the BGS and not FD per se that has hiked the price. I am surprised that it's 10x the galactic average tho' and that it's lasted this long. As someone else said tho' - make hay while the sun shines!
Hmmm...

1) Has this sort of price hike happened in the past 4yrs for anything mining related?
2) It's happened just in conjunctions with Void Opals becoming super easy to locate?

More hmmm.... Followed by yet more hmmm....

Void Opals are at 1,600,000+ at 12 system stations ...On Inara open Commodities in left margin. Click on Void Opals in the list, then up above "Best Sell"
VO are at 1,687,600+ today

Oh, and you ARE going to get interdicted if you are carrying valuable minerals into one of these areas as that is the reason the price is so high...dangerous. BUT, KEEP YOUR NOSE on the Escape Target when you do and blast out of there. Don't fight. YOU WILL LOSE almost always. Just my .02 ;-)

The last time I went opal mining, it required a lot more effort:

A ten hour drive into the desert
Decent of a 30m ladder with a shotgun
Use of said shotgun to despatch taipans and mulgas that had fallen down the shaft
Endless hours of jackhammer and shovel work
Very little reward

The 34th century version seems much better. Might give it a go on the weekend.

PS: Frontier should add a new ship - The Mulga

Try jade prospecting in BC :D

I think we need a new rare: Void Opal RIngs.
Only in stock if miners have sold them at the station.
Mulga medium size gem hunter ship OK

Void Opal mining is not difficult once you get the hang of it...same as low temp diamonds or any core mining, like Alex, Grand, or Monozite, Musgravite, Beni, or Rhod or Seren.
This IS where the BIG BUX are, no doubt about it. It is like fishing, or any other solitary sport...you are cruising icy rings with your Pulse, trying to find the right asteroids to crack and get to the core. . . Compare it to sitting at a Nav Beacon playing it safe and whacking shields down baddies for hours on end, to make 500K if you are lucky and stay alive long enough. How many times have I waited to get ONE MORE ship prior to going to cash out at nearest station to only get blown away by someone whose shields suddenly went back online at 10 - 40% and suddenly notice ME, not the Feds? So, same amount of time spent core-mining is 10 to 100 times more moola for same amount of time. Again, my humble .02.

Watch some of the void opal mining youtube vids. Then check back and I will tell you what they are NOT telling you (little details they think you should just "know" lol)

Bah!

When I saw this thread had been updated, I was hoping it might've meant that INARA or EDDB had finally gotten around to displaying the location of hotspots somewhere on their sites. :(

Doesn't really matter, I suppose, since one hotspot is much like another but you'd think the location of hotspots would be the sort of thing INARA/EDDB would include.
Maybe the API that runs stuff like EDMC doesn't report hotspot locations?
