VoidExpanse - 2D multiplayer space trade/combat RPG

I plunked down on the VoidExpanse Alpha today. It's a 2D, top-down asteroid-like space shooty thingy with RPG/trade elements.

So far, singleplayer works pretty well, though the amount of available ships and upgrades is a bit limited. There's also PvP and PvE multiplayer, though hardly anyone has heard of this game yet and in addition there are quite a few bugs.

It plays a lot like a miniature Elite in 2D. Combat is not amazing, but not terrible either. The controls are serviceable but could do with some refinement to make the game feel a bit more "real". The engine used is Unity, and bugs aside I'd say the devs have gone to quite a few lengths to get rid of the usual unity-related niggles, like that ugly resolution setup dialog. It doesn't scream "I'M A UNITY GAME", which is good.

With some bugfixes, and MAYBE even a linux dedicated server (right now both the dedicated server and the client are windows only), this could be quite fun!

Here's a gameplay video from Scott Manley:
