General / Off-Topic Volunteer effort

There's a couple disasters in progress here, both an earthquake and widespread heavy flooding, affecting about 1/10 of the population. Most major roads are closed. Hundreds of cars afloat. Some garages are doing free restoration work, if you pay for the parts.
There are helicopter patrols running in a rescue effort, and people with small boats are working with the police.

I'm working the ER, Dialysis, and Cardiac Crit units at a private hospital, and we've been converted over to an emergency collection point for donations of foodstuffs etc. There's a staff shortage, as people cannot get to work, so I'm also doing the Orthopedics and Trauma over the last 48 hours. Fortunately, it's not too busy. I got some sleep today.

You should see the videos of anacondas people are posting...

In any event, my folks are unaffected. We live on hills, because we took global warming seriously. Continued storms are expected over the next 2 days. Also criminals on the move, I hear, so the house is at higher risk while off working. Doubt they'd hit the hospital.

Will write more if anything interesting transpires.

Stay safe ! Cmdr.

Human life is essential.

Hundreds of cars afloat ? No disaster here. Human and animal life is infinitely more important that cars which have no importance and create irreversible damage to our environment.

Hes from Trinidad & Tobago where F1 champion Lewis Hamilton's family is from which explains why Lewis doesn't fully have a english accent but more of a trini accent.

Rade has it right.

Things are pretty bad as rain is heavy, with a lot of venomous wildlife hitting people. We lost airport access today, but thankfully the ferry brought in our Ortho surgeon from Tobago.
Some of my friends have set up on site makeshift clinics to handle the people in shelters, etc.

Running out of supplies in the hospital. Dressings and such. Got some resupply from a rival private place.
Spent the last 24 hours working without food. Mostly heart attack cases on the unit. We got an interventional guy this evening, so he's got my worst cases moved to a place where they can get angioplasties.

Fasting practise has come in handy.

Internet still works, go figure.

Made it home, where everything is oddly perfectly normal.
