Astronomy / Space Voyager has left the Solar System

Voyager has entered interstellar space

There's some debate about that. Formally, the Solar System extends out to the Oort Cloud - that's a long way off yet!

Was it something we said? :D

Fascinating though, it's got power for another 10 or so years so the things we might learn.

Well, the Zen Buddhist in me knows all these things are man-made constructs.

Still, if Rupert Murdoch says it, it has to be true ;)

Yet again...

Give it a couple of days and scientists will once again redefine what determines the edge of the solar system, placing Voyager 1 back inside the Solar system again.

You'd think these guys would know when to just let go...

Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 is now discussing it on his program.

Should be avaliable on Iplayer.

My first reaction was the same: again?

Then I decided screw it, for me now it has officially left the solar system. That's it. Also from what I understand previous 'leavings' are actually correct. Voyager 1 officially left the solar system on or about the 25th of August 2012. It's only NOW that it's confirmed. I think this latest news is as good as it's gonna get for the next 30,000 years or so.

According to the fella on Radio 2 yesterday is not moving very fast.

A mere 17 000 miles per second.

Not bad for a 60's idea made with 70's equipment, thats still working today. My 80's TV blew up a few years after getting it... :D
