VR Cocpit UI elements in 3D? Post pics.

Question - in VR, is the radar scanner display, and the ship shields/hull actually in true 3D? - ie can you lean in, and look from the left or right (or under it) with all the little contact symbols correctly rendered (ie the display actually has depth)?

Some screenshots of odd cockpit viewpoints achievable only in VR would be great! :) At least it would detract from the abundance of Vive visual quality issues threadnaughts (hope they fix that soon).

Walk around your cockpit, in any ship and show us what VR allows you to do that us 2D glued-to-seat CMDR's can't.

Gawd, July/August delivery for my CV1... waiting...

All the cockpit elements are 3D in VR.

It's just impossible to take pictures of them :D

These two strips are actually floating in front of you. Hard to describe. Please forgive the awfulness of the screenshot - was just a quick capture of the monitor mirror.

One of the same strips is now closer to the "front" and it offers some idea of where the main HUD is in comparison.

Get a bit closer and this happens

As always with VR - the screenshots look nothing like you experience in the game.

Lol, thanks Asp Explorer - screenshots are fine, forgiven and repped! Which HMD are you using?

I can see that the HUD elements are angled so its best viewed from the pilot's chair (durr)

You must be out of the bubble - zero contacts, not even a planet!

It's just a DK2, and the mirror is not set up at all well - mostly because every time NVidia update their drivers it needs set up again - so I've given up.

Yup - everything is "angled" to be best viewable from the pilots chair. Those screenies are horrible - it's just something you have to see for yourself.

Agree totally - the feeling of real depth must be amazing. I've only seen some 360 VR content in a OSVR so far, great but not on this order of immersion.
My CV1 was a late order, so I'm on track for late July/ early August delivery... still a ways off! 90 sleeps and counting... sometimes I feel like my 6-year old son counting down towards Christmas. :D

Well, the holographic displays to the left and right aren't proper 3D, but it's easy not to notice as you're playing.

That's kind of dissapointing and weird.. they're probably like the station ship holograms which you can rotate. Was always assuming they were 3D.

Why is it disappointing?

I have taken to standing just behind and to one side of the pilot seat in VR to issue commands to the 'pilot'.

I have programmed Voice Attack so I can slowly voice command the ship into dock to let the auto-dock take over! I feel like a ship captain: "5 degrees port" "Pitch up 2" "Full stop" It is so nerdy!

Suffice to say the display is fully realised around the 'pilot'!

Ill post some screenies when I get back :)

Huh not sure what you mean? The 'flat' view is simply one eye rendered before distortion, not sure how a driver update would affect anything.

The Conda cockpit is huge and amazing. The HUD in VR ... can't easily put words to it. The one thing I have to get use to however is that on a monitor I could see all HUD elements in a quick glance. In VR one has to actually look around. Deployed hardpoints.. I have to look right/left to make sure the right ones are selected. Select a target to scan/etc.. consciously look left and down at the panel. What altitude am I at? Yeah.. the 'ladder' is gigantic. Pan slightly right. Yeah, there it is. Any messages? Oh, that is projected to a much closer screen to the upper left. It requires some eye focus as it is closer compared to most other hud elements. How are my pips set? Oh, its way over there on the right. Yeah, it takes a tiny tad bit more effort for situation awareness... but oh man it is amazing to behold. My wallet may be empty to get me to this point, but I'm amazed and thankful gaming has come this far.
