Vr headsets damaging glasses lenses

2 small vertical lines one on each glasses lense. Perfect centered and aligned with focal point of both the rift S and reverb G2.
No I never put my glasses down on lenses.
My missus got new glasses at the same time as me hers with same fault. She stopped using her hmd (quest 1) and I since upgraded mine.
My new glasses I got at same time mine are again marked in exactly the same spots. Hers are not.
Is it possible the hmds are somehow causing this?

Yes. It's easy to do, my old hmd lenses have the marks rather than my glasses, but I suspect that's down to my glasses having had anti glare and scratch treatments, so the hmd lenses probably less protected. And I have never actually noticed the lenses touching.

The headset lenses and your glasses absolutely can mark each other if they're able to bump each other during use.
If you have a headset that allows you to adjust the lenses independently of the screen (eg: Samsung Gear) you can probably dial the headset itself in to your prescription and forego the glasses, but afaik that's actually a rare feature.

Never had scratched glasses, but I had scratched lenses that caused faint smudges around the FOV center. Applied a watch protector film to them, most of the scratches got evened out and the smudge all but disappeared, and being the films made of softer plastic than my glasses, no scratches so far on them either.

Sounds like it. Look on the bright side; Once you've acquired new glasses, you now have a pair of glasses dedicated for VR use! 😉

Hehe...I can confirm that the glasses ain't touching the reverb but not sure if they were touching the rift S, probably was that. Damn.
Right well the prescription lenses for the reverb sounds like a plan
