VR Horizons - Can you play it non VR?

Hi everyone,

If if you have the VR version of Horizons, which is awesome, can you play the PC version with no VR? Thinking of when I don't have access to the VR setup. If so, how do you launch it and play on a normal monitor?

Thanks for the help.

Hi jrivon,

do you have a Vive by chance?

Steam VR has has an option in its settings that you need to uncheck at first:

[ ] allow applications to launch steam VR
or s.th. similar (sry I'm on work currently).

Now you can start ED in 2D

You can disable vr entirely in the graphics by turning the 3d setting to off. Even if you start in vr.
Same way back as well, set 3d to the correct HMD option.

Oculus and steam should also be able to start the game in desktop mode, right click on the game in oculus library.

As for other options you can use ED profiler and have one profile without vr and one for.
This is my recommended since you would often be able to use completely different settings on screen than with vr unless you have at minimum a 1080ti.

The last is to append " -novr " to the end of a desktop shortcut to the launcher.
Using that forces the game to starthe in 2d.

As for personal preference.
No. You can't play elite in 2d after having vr.

I can confirm this dilemma. Actually all games but Kerbal Space Program have lost their fun potential for me, when being played on a monitor... being in the scenario is so much more than playing a game. And Elite was and is the king of all VR games.

I agree. I haven't played a video game in about a year, only VR games. Elite is king even with the issues that come from straddling both sides of the fence (flat small screen/VR) vrs built only for VR. But now that I've built my sim racing rig Assetto Corsa is a close second.

Yep. Finally got around to buying Vorpx as I so desperately wanted to try Skyrim with it. Yeah it's a little bit janky here and there and when you pull out your sword it's like you've got King Kong's arms. Like a lot of VR's little quirks though, you just tune it all out after a while. It's worth it, because when it works in Skyrim, it's like WOW! It just makes exploring all those dungeons and ruins feel like a new experience. It's not perfect but it still beats the hell out of playing it on a flat screen again.

Quoted for truth. :)

Also, you simply can't play 2D minecraft once you've played Vivecraft. You simply haven't lived unless you've experienced creeping down a dark tunnel, and then hearing a "hissssssss" behind you.

You can be honest.

You ran straight into a wall once...

I know I have.... :/

Of course.

But nothing beats my first experience in the Steam Lab. Forgot what I was seeing wasn't real, and leaned against the table full of toys to grab something on the other side.

Hilarity ensued.

Yup, done that too..

Also in vanishing realms, I have on more than one occasion when playing vanishing realms.
Tried to stick my head down the holes/ladder where you descend to a different level. Only to have the floor clearly tell me, I actually don't have a hole in it.

Even though my apartment is in quite terrible conditions ;)
