VR lovers, one for you

Hello everybody,

I just need to share something with you, since elite made me do it, years back.
I started playing elite when i was 7, i knew right there and then what i want to do for the rest of my life. So i took to engineering.
All of it, all fields, everything interested me..

Flying trough space when you are 7 is fantastic.
I cant even imagine a kid playing elite now, i bet the kids today will grasp more of the space then we will ever able to..

But i can imagine our kids using this, i have been working on SpaceSys for a long time, it is a virtual reality operating system environment. A real one, no fakes and no rubbish.

You can check it out here, SpaceSys Vimeo video

It is still a work in progress, lots of stuff that needs to be fixed and added, but it works and it will be available in the current state in a week.
So go check it out :)

Ah yes, the way elite plays now inside, it is possible to do it with rift or without, and all of the available software can be used like that, inside SpaceSys..

There is a lot more to say but if you are interested you can check it out at www.3deaspacesys.com

A lot is written there, i usually don't steal posts, or forums like this, but elite is my game, maybe the last one i will play, i had to tell you how it changed me.

Regards, and see you in space!Sys :)

Wow! Looks impressive. Is this some shell over Windows, such as AERO?
Any clue how much resources it takes extra to run this? I am buying a new PC next year (Waiting for Win10). And it will be a beefed up monster :D

Cheers and congratz for achieving your dream!

Lowest Specs to run it?
It's interesting if it supports full head tracking this will kill all Multi screen setups.

Desktope ,from what I know ,still can't do this, so you would be steps ahead.

Nice!!!

Thanks ppl,

Minimum specs, here :)

We are a step ahead of many things, along with the VR tech that we are counting on :) and that is not good.
Right now unoptimized it eats a lot of your pc power, if you run a lot of things at once, but if you play elite inside only, as you normaly do it, and run a browser with it, the framerate is around 100, with a good pc. (read quad core i7 and gtx 780 and above)

But we will optimize now, and it will be a blast.

Yes, head tracking and oculus rift is fully supported as right now, you can combine everything you can think of and it works.. we added kinect, which is bad, but the control scheme is there, next in line is leap motion, so imagine that now :)

We still need 2 months to really be fully stable and call it a beta.

Wish me luck!

P.S.

Yes it is over the shell, complete control.
And the PC running it is 6core i7@4.7, 16GB ram, GTX titan, and a normal HDD 1tb

You have my attention Dalmat. I've been trying to use Virtual desktop with the Rift to launch apps and switch between games and (usable) desktop on the fly. But I keep running into problems. You also seem to be offering a lot more freedom and an actual 3D space to use for your windows instead of just a flat dome projection of your classic desktop. Does it work with Win 8.1?

i gave it a try this afternoon - but couldnt figure out how to use it with the rift? Am I missing something obvious?

Works only with DK1,

What you see in the video, is not released yet, you will have to be patient for a month or 2 to get it all.. Count after new year..

We are working on implementation of DK2 as i type here :) and some engine optimizations, so you can have a smooth experience.

If you have DK1, you just turn on stereoscopic display in the spacesys config app, it will work.

Hey guys,

I just had to self destruct because i was stuck in an asteroid field with no way out.., while playing on a 5760x1080 canvas, inside spacesys which runs @5760x1080, both of them in ultra details, rendered @ 25 frames, on a casual pc..

I must say that is fantastic.. cant wait to push this out :)

And to get OR CV, so i can stop working :D

Here is a video of playing elite in 5760*1080, while rendering it inside spacesys @5760*1080

ED @ 11520*2160 video :)

I was too lazy to play it with oculus, but you get the picture.

WHat is good about it, is that we will be able to bend the canvas as we see fit, we will play around with it later on, and give you some fantastic results..

As soon as the DK2 aware version is out I will be purchasing, This is how I have always wanted to interact with my computer.

Please tell me you have your patents sorted.. and then tell me your IPO date because I would invest

I foresee great challenges in using real applications with this, such as Photoshop, after effects or anything really where you need fine detail, your OS is basically relying on the VR market taking off to such an extent that we will get optics good enough to work at these details actually in a headset, also it is relying on the fact that VR headsets will become comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time using the OS. Also virtually 100% of productive applications use keyboard shortcuts...which doesn't really work with something stuck to the front of your face. I hope it works out for you.
