Hey guys, so I mentioned this in the other motion controller support thread but to recap. I made a VR overlay app for Skyrim to add a virtual quickslot belt and extending on that idea and some work in an as yet unannounced VR game project I decided to try making a VR overlay app with motion controlled virtual cockpit controls for Elite Dangerous. Here's a quick video off an early test flight to show of some of the capabilities.

The poor res and frame rate in the video seems to be a result of recording the VR mirror directly. The actual game runs just fine.
The idea is to generate an interactive virtual cockput interface to completely replace regular inputs like a joystick or joypad. The advantage is it provides a much more immersive and engaging cockpit to interact with and as everything is rendered in VR you can see the buttons and get a visual indication of what they do. The stick and throttle are both tracked in VR too and can be manipulated by the motion controllers. The actual Holocab stick and throttle are not rendered they're just placed to match up with the in game position which work really well as ED does a great job of moving the stick and throttle in response to your inputs.
So far I'm really happy with how it's shaping up and am already thinking about extending it to support other cockpit based and possibly driving games.
Hopefully there will be a version available for download by Friday (17th).
Obviously ideally Frontier would implement something like this directly into ED which would overcome some of the limitations I have to work with, but in the mean time this seems like it could be a very workable solution for those who want the maximum VR immersion in ED.
