VR performance just gotten worse over time?

Is it just me or does performancd in VR just keep getting worse?

I've been playing Elite exclusively in VR since closed beta. I keep leveling up my hardware, yet the experience keeps dropping.

some of this, I'm sure, is because the CV1 runs a higher resolution and 90hz instead of 75, but still, I've gone from 970 to 980 to 980TI to 1080 and still have loads of inexplicable dropped frames, in supercruise, around surface bases, sometimes just in deep space

Ive got a 6700k and 16gig of the fastest ram you can get. I've got a Samsung 950 PRO SSD which is like 5 times faster than a fast SATA ssd...

if i drop the graphics detail way down it helps some of the chop, slightly, but most if it persists.

what more can I do? Is anyone else having this kind of experience?

just a little frustrated after lots of money spent, time spent tweaking with settings, benchmarking, overclocking, underclocking, opening support tickets, etc...

and yet i hear about people running high and ultra and having things totally smooth, and I feel like I'm just crazy over here.

running an Oculus

Sorry, I've just had my CV1 for a week and I haven't notices any problems.

Are you just dropping frames, or are you also experiencing judder or stutter or whatever? I'd think with ATW you shouldn't notice occasional dropped frames.

Or are you having a reduction in FPS? If so, I'd ask what your supersampling is set to? Even with a 1080, I experience FPS drops with SS set at 1.2 or above in certain situations, but I can live with it, thanks to ATW. In any case, I'm not experiencing any judder or stuttering.

I think VR is looking great, but I've been informed that I'm still in the honeymoon period for the next few months. ;)

The ATW definitely keeps the head tracking going, which is fine if you're sitting still, but any time you're flying around, dropped frames are still nasty. Not nauseating nasty, but really distracting

Oh, oh hey, I checked out that sound thing. OH MAN. Okay, so.. I haven't even changed any of the values. But... I always launch Elite from the launcher. NOT through steam and NOT through the Oculus store, which means that it wasn't loading up the audio with the WASAPI library, like it's supposed to for VR

So.. so far it's not perfect, still some chop here and there, but it seems, so far, to be much less common and less potent.

More experimenation is required, but so far, THANK YOU THANK YOU

Still get a lot of inexplicable chop when just flying around in space. Sometimes nothing even in view. Really no idea what this game is doing to slow things down. It rarely even seems combined with any sort of graphical load

Yeah some of the times it doesn't look completely smooth when turning the ship, but the FPS counter still say its 90 FPS, so could also be some server issue maybe?

Vive here. OP - Are you running your GPU in a PCIe x16 slot? Or at least the fastest PCIe slot your mobo can support?

I have mine set according to the recommended thread noted below with high on almost everything. I do drop frames, but it is smooth and usually unnoticeable off the pad. That being said. To the best of my knowledge, there is no GPU on the market (and I'm including the new Titan X-P) that can run Elite at 90 FPS and SS 2.0 in every environment on high/ultra settings across the board at this time.

The best reference I found was a guy on Reddit with a Titan X-P who could run 1.6 SS at 90 FPS.
