VR plus hotas plus game controller

hey everyone, i have just started playing in VR with my x55 hotas, my issue is with the galaxy map, it is just rubbish with the mouse and i saw someone use a xbox controller. I have tried setting up my binds using the x55 and controller but when saving it wipes the x55 bindings and names the profile as controller 2.
Working the galaxy map with the controller is perfect but how can i keep the x55 settings as well, and i am using voice attack so those binds i have to take into account as well.
Does it start a controller profile automatically when i start assigning buttons from the controller?, and then i just have to continue and re-bind the x55 as i am going?. Any help would be really appreciated, many thanks

In the very early days I used a HOTAS and Xbox controller and as new features got introduced added them to the controller.
Then one update came (game / windows or headset?) and wouldn't see HOTAS and controller (controller taking over)
I believe it was a problem with the USB ports (too much info with VR etc).........I migrated all to the HOTAS.
Sorry cannot be more of a help.

I don´t use the X-55 anymore, but i have mapped the complete galaxy map controls to the hats on my Thrustmaster Warthog, which has a very similar layout to the X-55 stick. It works flawless and with ease. Here is my layout, maybe it helps:

Using VR with HOTAS and Voice Attack; it keeps my bindings.

One thing to double-check: ensure that -all- of the devices which are in your bindings file are recognised by your PC when the game loads. In my case I have an EDTracker which Windows sometimes doesn't load on bootup. I have to re-plug it in order for Windows to recognise it. If I forget to replug it and start Elite, it won't load my bindings file since there's a missing controller.

Personally I think the game should always load the bindings file you specify and display a warning if not all controllers are available.

I’ve always used xbox controller for galaxy map alongside hotas. I always start with an Xbox profile and then customise it. Always worked just fine :)

using the galaxy map on the hat switches with other commands wont conflict because they work only when the galaxy map is open, is that right ?.

So i start with a controller config, then just add all the hotas and voice attack buttons and keys then i add the button presses for the galaxy map. That way i have everything on a controller profile but it includes everything ???

I would just start with an empty bind.

Then set it up as you feel like.
Not really an issue for a game as basic as Elite.

Keep in mind that for any binding file it will be ignored by the game in its entirety if a device used in one is disconnect on game start.
For wireless controllers it could be these need to be activated and powered before starting the game.

As for bindings.
One set that seem to permeate all nodes are the main menu navigation buttons.
Up, down, left, right, and select, deselct/menu back.

As for the rest all pretty much stay inside their mode.
In other words no worry about binding double.

When you setup binds anyways the game will notify of conflicting binds.
If it doesn't, all should be fine.

For ease of use though I recommend sticking some similar functions, like target ahead, to the same button for both main ship, srv, and fighters.
Oh yeah the that is multicrew.
