VR PROBLEMS

Haven’t played in VR in a while so I decided to pick it up again today. I have it in Oculus and when I push it to play I get the loading screen on my headset but the game displays to my TV, but it stays stuck at loading in the headset. It won’t play in VR. what do I do?

Hmmm.... Well, you might try downloading and running EDProfiler, if you're not already using it. If nothing else, this will allow you to make changes to your options without actually being in the game. If, somehow, the HMD option for your display has been unselected, this will allow you to reactivate it. From the profiler, choose one of the VR presets, and see if this helps.

Good luck!

Edit: Since it is running on your TV, can you get to the game options from there?

Apparently not anymore :/ I just checked and one of the changes they made in 3.0 was to get rid of the HMD option unless you opened it in VR. Now that I’ve opened it in VR, apparently this locks me out of enabling the HMD ever again.

Just get Dr. Kai's ED Profiler already.

You click the VR button and "Apply" and Bang! Bob's you're mother's brother.

Or click "2D Profile" and "Apply" and Bang! It turns out that Bob has another brother called Dave.

EDIT:

If you like the command line, you can open up command prompt as Administrator and type

Code:
net stop ovrservice

and the game will start in 2d regardless of the HMD settings.
As a bonus, the slightly CPU eating Oculus Home will shut down.

At any time, you can type

Code:
net start ovrservice

to switch the HMD back on.

Have you tried selecting one of the VR presets in EDProfiler?

Edit: That GraXXoR's too quick on the draw... X-D

Just tried the profiler. It won’t recognise my game save. Even if I manually tell it where it is it doesn’t recognise it as a save file so that’s no bueno :/

That's weird. It sounds like your ED installation might be corrupted. I'm a-thinkin' re-installation...

You mentioned that you start from Oculus home, correct? How about a non-oculus install, starting it from the Frontier Launcher? I can't get mine to start from Oculus (I get an authentication error.). I always just use the launcher.

And please don't slap me for asking the obvious: All drivers and applications up to date?

my AV halted a file last time I tried to run from oculus, I set an exception and it started up and ran fine after that

Unfortunately I don't recall what the file name was and I'm not currently on that computer.

Have you tried re-installing the oculus driver? Goto the Oculus Driver Folder, if it is the default install folder then - C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers\oculus-driver.exe if not goto your Oculus install Folder.
Double click the .exe and try starting Elite again, if that does not work then restart your system and try starting Elite. Hopefully this will help.

I still have the HMD Headphones option in Elite Graphic options under 3D

Hm. I’ll have to try a reinstall perhaps. I did just update all my drivers, one being my GeForce driver as well but all the other Oculus games run fine. What I ended up doing in the mean time was using the product key to install to steam vr. Works fine there, just not from Oculus home.

Okay, ending word. Once I had installed the game in Steam and opened it via Steam VR, it worked. Then, I closed out of steam VR and tried to open it through Oculus home, voila, it works. Must have been that I opened it in desktop mode though Oculus and it locked me out of HMD, but reenabled it when in steam. Weird

The ED Profiler doesn't like Oculus Home installs for ED. Not sure if there's a way to do some mucking around and set it up so that it does.

There is a launcher start option (-novr)
I highly suspect when you launch ED through oculus in desktop mode it uses this mode.
It completely shuts down the use for VR devices.
Just close game and the launcher and start it again.

No problem here with EDProfiler and an Oculus install of Elite. Just had to point it to the correct path.
