Hardware & Technical VR products: Oculus vs all

I'll make it simple, I'm poor but I really want to enjoy my game in VR.
I tried the HTC vive and I loved it, but that thing is too expensive for me and I would currently have no use of the two controllers.
My choice is to buy an Oculus headset, latest kit on the market. Is it any good, does anybody have one ? If so, how's the resolution doing, what about light filtering, is it comfortable ?
Should I buy one or just save money to get an HTC (and a new flat with spacious rooms) ?
Thanks o7

I got my Rift for $600 (Australian) second hand, it had about 16 hrs on it. Not sure where you are, but that's about £320, or US$460. I'd look for a second hand bargain, personally.

I think you'll find, overall, they both perform to a comparable level, both have pros and cons, and neither are really superior, especially in terms of image quality. It'll be a few years yet before we have 4k quality in HMD's - and that is assuming the same image size - otherwisewe'll be waiting for 8K per eye, and the graphics cards to drive them...

I'd just keep saving money up until the next generation of VR comes out. You'll need a fairly beefy rig to enjoy VR.

My rig is actually my most prized possession, even my car is cheaper. Thank you for your answer !

Yup alright. That's what I thought, I'll wait a few more years before actually buying one of those.
However I think that the PS4 VR is really decent, best image quality yet. Could look into that if there's anyway to tweak it for PC.
Thanks for your answer !

I have one-- it is comfortable, it works well enough, but there is without a doubt a beta-feel to it -- Way too many wires hanging around, the Velcro straps are .. meh.
If you're strapped for cash, I'd wait.. there is zero doubt that the next gen will be more powerful, more comfortable, and cheaper. Especially with Microsoft now getting into the game, they'll be a little more competition.
