VR Setup help

First up system spec

• Ryzen 5600X
• EVGA 2080 XC Ultra
• 16GB GSkill Trident Z Neo
• 1TB Sabrent m.2 SSD
• Asus 4K Monitor

Ok, I am trying desperately to get along with my Valve Index even though I have an awful lazy eye and even on the smallest IPD setting its still not quite right
I am really struggling to get even basic settings correct in SteamVR and E, not sure if part of the problem is the fact everything I do apart from VR is done at 4K(cant see why that would cause an issue but I am lost at where to go now)
Not sure why but SteamVR seems to like setting the resolution to 2016 x 2240

At the end of my tether now and just want things to work

Looking for some solid settings for both SteamVR and E that will convince me to keep the Index and not turn it into an expensive paperweight.


Any help hugely appreciated.

I’m afraid I can’t give much advice seeing as I’m using a Rift S & GTX 1080, but one thing that immediately leaps out at me is that you’re running the headset at 144Hz - that’s going to really strain your system.

For a start I’d suggest dropping to 90 or even 80 and then try increasing ED quality settings in-game.

Is it in-game performance that’s the issue?

Its only on 144hz as I was messing around, normally run 120hz.
I cant get away with 80/90 at all.

Its SteamVR settings and ingame settings I am looking for, I just cant find a good mix to get things running well

Ah, okay. I’m locked at 80Hz so I have mostly High/Ultra settings in game, with HMD quality at 1.25

Hopefully someone else with similar specs to you can chip in with some info

I seem to be able to run 120Hz with HMD Ultra settings and HMD quality at 1.25
