VR suggestions?

I'm may have foolishly buried some VR improvement suggestions in the deep corners down in the suggestion-forum.
I'd like to hear if some of you experience the same issues. And perhaps you can chime in down there in the dark dungeons where posts is forgotten forever ... :D

Basically it's:
* Galaxymap & System-map mouse navigation is still *cough*.
* Displaymode (windowsize) is reset
* Camerasuite does support zoom

VR woes - unexpected implementations, Map usage & Display Configuration reset

Aye? Nay?

Yeah, both maps are kind of wonky, but you can deal with it. I ended up just making shortcuts to most places I visit. Or use the search function for the system names.

The screen size changes when you switch back and forth is annoying.. Not a killer by any means. Dr Kaiis tools help.

Yes, not what I was complaining about.
I'm forced to use a HOTAS, which is utterly slow to pan and shift location. Mouse works much more directly & fast when you explore the maps.
I'd rather see a working mouse implementation.

A mouse is a 2D pointing device and not suited to 3D environments. Pro tip: Zoom out of the sys / gal map to pan / move at a quicker pace.

Would be nice to see FD caught up on the VR aspect. Add full support for the VR controllers to simulate HOTAS by grabbing the ones in game. in addition grab, drag, and rotate the map with the controllers, and lastly menu interaction with controllers and a virtual keyboard. (personally i want buttons for everything that i have to reach out and virtually push)
Ive used dantman's virtual cockpit, it was a nice teaser of what could be accomplished if FD decided to go this route. It brings more life to Elite VR then just being able to look around.

In case you haven't tested. It works fine in the remaining UI, in the galaxy map, the system map. You can pan, zoom, rootate as usual.
You just cannot use it for one feature inside the (galaxy/system) map, hovering and enabling the star-info and clicking the system itself.

I'm not asking FD to replace you favorite input method, I rather ask for support for mine. Ok?

Voice attack is a must
Perhaps some people prefer it, it is darn nice in many situations. I can understand that. I do have it, but I work more quickly using the HOTAS, mouse & keyboard with the bindings and software I'm using.
Unfortunately it doesn't help with my predicament regarding the missing features.

Navigating system map galaxy map etc using hotas. The hat is my zoom.
Works perfectly.
Only thing I hate is no keyboard which is a shame.

Update
Just played ED in pancake and I was surprised to see how much better the mouse navigation in the system map works!

Again, a mouse is a 2D pointing device, they are not meant to work in 3D space hence the issues you encounter. There are numerous controller options which will work in a 3D environment ranging from gamepads to HOTAS, combined with Elites map zoom function you pretty much have a non-issue on your hands here mate. As for me testing the mouse in VR, you are correct I'm not stupid enough to even attempt using a 2D pointing device in a 3D environment....

Cylon, the HOTAS has the same challenge. You pan, zoom, align yourself with a 3D point in space on a 2D representation.
The HOTAS feature then 'snaps' to a point if you're close enough.
The HOTAS also triggers 'info popup' when it snaps.
The mouse has the same blue cirle (positioning) as the HOTAS, using the same point in space.
However it cannot 'snap' to a system. Both mechanisms share the same 3D coord system.
If you test pancake (mouse) vs VR HOTAS and Mouse you may be able to see the same thing.

A HOTAS (or even gamepad) has enough axis to control the cursor correctly in 3D space, i.e X,Y & Z, and most likely a spare one for R. A mouse does not (only X & Y are possible) and as such is not a valid input method for use in 3D space. HOTAS and gamepads do not have any issues or challenges when used to navigate either map and as stated, simply zooming out of the map will speed up your cursor speed. Ideally in VR you do not want to be switching input methods mid game either, so if you're using a HOTAS you would ideally use it for everything anyway.

I have never played the game in 2D and never intend to. Perhaps your issue is more of "old habbits die hard" and you were used to controlling the maps with a mouse in the past coming from the 2D version of the game.

My opinion is that FDEV would be better off removing the mouse option from the maps for VR users altogether and work at some better default maps binds.

Thank you for your opinion and input. I'm sorry to hear you don't like to work (play) in the same way as me and others.

I've been using HOTAS since early 2000 and the first Flanker, LOMAC and DCS and constantly since.
I use 3D mouse pointing in the cockpit there in VR. In 3D environment representation.
Mouse implementation is quite good, but it takes practice like any other input device.

I would kindly ask you to stop replying since it's not taking this discussion any futher, but rather trying holding it at a status qou.

zoom out first, then pan is much faster, zoom back in to select. i use a 4 way hat for that.
