Hi there, supremely clever Frontier Developments Developers!
I had a crazy "just might work" idea to help those of us using VR with text entry in things like the Galaxy Map search field, or in Chat windows, commander name entry - well, okay, everywhere.
Imagine, if you will, a circle, with an alphabet written in concentric circles going outward from A - Z.
Then imagine a selection circle resting in the middle of it, which moves in response to analogue stick input (with appropriate binding available in controls).
You move the aforementioned analogue stick to select a letter and pull the trigger (for example) to select it, and using a dictionary of available words, and stars, the game begins to suggest auto-completions for what you're typing - if it gets it right first time, you click the secondary fire button (for example) to accept the suggestion and move to the next word if needed. If not you keep selecting letters until completion of the word, or until auto-completion of same.
As you type things in more frequently, the locally saved dictionary gets updated and perhaps words get ordered by frequency - perhaps you could also add shortcuts for phrases? In the galaxy map the first auto-correct suggestions could come from bookmarks.
Presumably this could translate rather well into other languages too.
Thoughts?
Would love so much to see this (or something like it) implemented to save me having to look down through the Vive nose gap to find my keyboard and end up covfefe'ing all over the text input field.
Best regards!
