VR vs triple monitor: graphics card performance

Hiya

I'm on an R9 290 and running three monitors at a resolution of something like 5000x1080 (can't remember the exact figure). It runs very smoothly on ultra in space but a bit juddery on planets so i have the detail set to a notch lower on surfaces as recommended by FD (I think).

If VR is essentially running 'just' two 1080p screens (please correct me if I'm wrong) I should be OK shouldn't I?

Just hearing a lot about the high specs required for VR and wondering if I'll be able to run Horizons nicely on an OR or Vive with my current setup.

Thanks guys.

As far as I understand. VR requires frame rates of 75fps upwards. The vive may need 90fps. And that's where you need a massive boost in the graphics card.
I run triple monitors in SLI and they are automatically set to 60fps.
best wait until VR is out commercially and supported properly.

I'm running ED smooth on Ultra (Ambient occlusion off) with the DK2 with a single 980TI and heavily overclocked CPU. FPS needs to be a stable 75FPS for the DK2, the CV1 will require 90FPS. It's not the same as running the game across two 1080p screens, you are essentially running the image twice.

I doubt my single 980TI will handle the CV1 or Vive at the settings I wan't. I am planning to either get a second 980TI or see what's available by March.

Don't go cheap with VR, build a monster rig.
