VR Wow Performance

Last night I was fiddling around with Dr. Kaii's video settings tool and while swapping to my VR profile from my monitor one I accidentally punched in a 2.0 SS in-game with 2.0 SS in vrsettings without realizing it. I was amazed at the hangar bay with SRV. Looked AMAZING. Then I turned my face slightly, the tearing was horrid and I realized what I'd done. Can't wait for an card that can drive 2.0/2.0. Wow.

Phew, that's a relief - I thought you were about to say 2.0/2.0 ran fine! Even a 1080 can't run it. It does look good though. It also looks okay so long as you look ahead and travel in a straight line. As soon as you turn or look out the side window, especially in the SRV on a planet, and ugh.

I'm roaming around a lot of rocky and icy planets/moons now and I'm running 1.5 pixel density in the Oculus Tool and 1.0 SS in ED. It improves things a bit but still gives a good frame rate when a lot of terrain is in view.

Rough-terrain seems to dent the fps more... more polygons visible!

SS in game isn't working properly yet. It's certainly not the same as it used to be when using the DK2. I could push SS in game to 2 and it would play fine. I think if FD actually sort out the in game SS we might be able to have even better quality.

An GTX 1080 isn't enough for 1080p 2.0x SS without VR (Max Details on engineers planet bases).
So there is no chance you will get this any time soon, since for VR you already have to render everything twice for each eye.

And with only 0.2% of all Steam Users currently playing in VR i don't think Frontier will rebuild its Engine up side down to implement those
VR shananigans from nVidia and AMD wich should improve the performance to nearly double. Even when the Elite playerbase with VR may be at even 2%.

Are you pulling those numbers from an authoritative source OxKing? I'll bet it's above the 5% level, but that is a guess.

You'd be wrong and he'd be right. I thought you'd be closer but here you go: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey it's 0.18. I'll let him off the 0.02. This time.

That isn't representative of the overall VR use in ED, the Rift comes with Oculus Home, I always launch Elite through Oculus Home.
That figure of Steam VR only covers Vive users and the few Rift users that run through Steam. Most Rift users launch from Oculus Home for the best support. Also last time I checked there were far fewer Vives out there than there are DK2's/CV1's

I have a newly acquired Vive. Planning to try this out soon.

Get to it, Elite in VR is awesome!

Make sure you check some of the threads here regarding good Vive:Elite setup. While the Rift works with Elite pretty much straight out of the box, I believe that it needs a little tweeking to get the best experience for the Vive. Just the impression I got from some of the threads here.

I too do not use steam, but use oculus home.

After looking at the Steam VR Hardware report, I can see why many people are having issues running VR. They have crap systems, for the most part. Even finding multi-core CPU's is a rarity.

Happy that I got a Rift. It's perfect for E D. Got a new PC MSI 1080 GTX, i7-4600 and so on. With SS 1.5, Elite look awesome and performes like hell. The PC even stays silent. Seems to be no effort for the machine to process all the data. The 1080 is awesome.

It's also only representative of those who run ED with VR through the Steam install. I run ED, I run a Vive but I run it from the standard launcher.
