Vulture alternatives

I use the best of both worlds, one gimb pulse and one gimb beam, shield str still over 500 and kills are a bit faster. but yes I agree dual beams are too much, drains to fast and have to sacrifice too much power to equip them both.
I run fixed C3 beam and gimb C3 cannon the only issue I have is shields are too nerfd and it becomes very obvious up against a DB explorer.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm primarily doing pve, so I might try out the DBE or the courier, not sure yet. The thought of a large hardpoint makes me happy, but the courier sounds awesome.

Another vote for the Courier here. It's not got the same power as the Vulture necessarily but I find it much more fun to fly. And the only power management I need to do is to turn off my Docking Computer for combat - which I have as a quality of life tool before anyone says anything :p

I do want to try the DBS or DBE myself at some point though, just for the look of the two ships...

When you sit in courier's cockpit and hear that sound.. it's like a fighter jet, you'll love it. I guarantee it :D

Courier is awesome ship... did not like it at first, but still experimented with loadouts, and found that with correct setup it is really, really good. Ended up using 2 gimballed multicannons + fixed beam. 3MC are fun, but taking down shields of bigger ships takes forever and depletes ammo fast. Single beam can be fired for a long time and helps a lot. And additionaly with 3-4 shield boosters (which it can actually run, unlike vulture) it has shields very similar to python, significantly better than vulture.

You can also try all smaller combat capable ships like viper and cobra...

Can't fit it without turning some modules off. This way, with sensors 2C I can fly with boosters and SCB always on.
Only FSD, interdictor, cargo hatch and fuel scoop are off. Everything else is up and running when weapons are deployed.

I was skeptical too about all kinetic weapons but soon found out how awesome it is to have all 4 pips into shields and not worrying about your weapons having enough power. It takes some time to take down shields (not much) but once you do, you chew through enemy's hull in no time.

Are you sure you can't run this setup? This will even get you an extra shield booster instead of a chaff launcher if you want. Or am I doing it wrong.

If you want some fun, this is a great build. It's really just a smaller vulture but it's power isn't an issue as much and it's a lot cheaper. Shields are still really strong.
Not really addressing you alternative request though.

Or for a bit of piracy.

^^ isnt that a bit odd with no interdictor on it? what do people do for cargo stealing if not pulling large haulers out. Hang around dodgy areas being ass scanned every two mins lol?

I was looking for fits for my new scout and this seemed nice and pretty sim to what I run now, but with that build would it not be better in an explorer? Is there an extra slot for the explorer that could take a interdictor maybe?

Yes an interdictor would be better I agree. An Explorer is a lot bigger and would be better but you are looking at 20 mill build, still viable for the OP if he sold the Vulture.

do haulers drop cargo randomly when destroyed, ive not really given much attention to that lol. If they drop their cargo all the time whats the purpose of the cargo scanner and limpets for hatch breaking?

I am guessing its random if destroyed and full cargo drop if hatch blown. Before you kill them.

I am plodding along having fun just killing for tickets and I chose my targets wisely in the scout because it does not take long to get ass handed if you mess up against 2 or even 3, especially if the police get called in which for me happens all the time when shooting fellow diamondbacks or the vultures...

Wondering if just one 8cap cargo unit will suffice so I can keep the interdictor and still use the hatchbreaker in that case.
I am guessing the more space is just relating to staying out longer when being picky collecting loot.

Ideal pirate strategy is to get the trader to drop goods while minimizing damage done. Shooting out the cargo hold does this nicely, although some of them fight back.

I have great difficulty it seems getting the shields down and hatch broken before the ship explodes LOL.

Type 6 interdicted, scanned it, shot shields out, fired limpet. then it tries to FSD away so I panic and target the FSD of the ship and think if i can take that out he cant run. but of course then it blows the whole hull and he is gone..... Specific targeting does not work in this game it seems.

Oh and to top it off when he pops he drops all his cargo anyhow lol, I mean :D

I really dont understand either why the limpets are put in ones cargo hold this really facks up the whole space issue. I can see why he had two holds now and dropped the FSDI - but I just can not see myself not needing one of those, its better to pull ships out of jump when they are solo and that will cause less agro from others, to get the job done quietly.

I love this DBS but I feel its just not up to the task :(

Might not work with a vulture, but don't forget that masslock is a thing.

Just target the cargo hatch and make sure you're aiming for it (gimballed weapons do it somewhat automatically) and it'll go down far before the ship does.

......I checked edshipyard and the DBE can't fit a shield optimally? Meaning an A4 shield comes out to 172. ....am I missing something?
