Ships Vulture canopy is it's glass jaw

I have had at least 30 or 40 battles with various NPC ships and I find that even though I whip their butts, my canopy is very very breakable once shields are down (50% failure rate) and it's really getting annoying. I had to install a 3B life support just to make sure I make back to a station in time. Anyone else finding this to be true and I guess there isn't much we can do about it. I wonder if it's a bug?

Don't think so, when "head on" lift up nose of ship to protect screen....carry a repair unit and set up a "macro" to repair screen with one button. Always get behind target! That's all for now.

It's not a bug. You have the third most manouevreable ship in game. She ought to have some weaknesses. A big canopy is one of them as a tax for awesome visibility. If you go head on without shields, you're doing it wrong. You can't face-tank ships in a Vulture. You can, however, run rings around them. :)

do you have access to engineers?

a simple to get grade 1 buff will do wonders for the power supply.

Else you may want to look at adding a bi weave shield instead as it uses less power, has less down time, and your shields still come in at over 300.

Chris already said it, if you are doing head on attacks in the Vulture with no shields you are doing the pew-pew's wrong.

As for Engineers... those of us flying Vultures really cannot do much with Engineers unless you have another ship or are willing to make a lot of sacrifices to your Vulture build...

I have just gone back to a Vulture, but can't find a build that I am happy with.

I just don't have enough power to fit any SCBs.

As mentioned an Engineered PP does wonders for the Vulture. Even a Grade 1 Mod from Farseer will solve most of your problems. Failing that you can fit a 4A SCB in place of the HRP and put the SCB on a lower priority. To use it you will need to retract hardpoints and wait for it to boot up before firing it off (about 10 seconds IIRC) so plan accordingly. Not ideal, I know.

As an aside - I found a beam laser and a multicannon loadout to be both effective and power efficient. Also way less boring than the 2 x pulse set up, though that works just fine.

HTH.

To the OP, as others have said don't go face on with the Vulture. Use it's agility to stay behind stuff and use those vertical and lateral thrusters a lot. When I started out with it I used to get the canopy wrecked a fair bit. After a bit of reading up and practice it's only happened a few more times. Keep your shields up. If they're going down bug out and recharge. It's an awesome ship but when it loses shields things go pear-shaped rapidly.

It looks like that engineers is the only way to go, with the Vulture. I wing with a guy that uses the multi and beam fit and he is always having to run back for reloading. Myself, I would just fit two beams, but then heat, becomes a major issue; if you ever had the power to run it.

I don't know, those 400+m/s reversing Anaconda NPC's can be a tad tricky at times.

The beauty of the Vulture, though, is that it is a C3 beam. I run a C3 fixed beam and a C3 gimbal multi, running out of ammo on the multi is OK, the C3 beam can do plenty of damage, just takes a tad longer to kill things.

You can vulture without engineers. But you have to be careful and be aware what the ship can and cannot do, that´s all.
Engineers just make that more flexible.

if you have problems with the vulture canopy broken often, i suggest buying an eagle, and take it for some rounds to a high res/ haz res/ high CZ.

an eagle will teach you good manners, like not to tank, to fly evasive, to think ahead - after that your vulture will feel like godmode.
