Ship Builds & Load Outs Vulture for purely combat role

I have had the vulture for about 4- 5 days now. I'm a noob and having power balance issues.

With the current set up I struggle without turning off some modules or reducing the priorities.

I really don't mind what it costs , I just want a tank that can bite back .

This ( if the link works ) is my build, in game, the power use is not quite so bad , but I would like a better buffer , I would appreciate any tips you guys have.

I've watched YouTube videos etc, and read forums, everyone says go see the engineers. but I've never mined or collected cargo in the 4 weeks or so I've been playing the game . So it's quite daunting for me...I haven't even set the key binds for the Srv , let alone drove it on a planet.

Thanks in advance

- i have two accounts. one with, one without horizons/engineers. seeing the engineers is optional - combat is more challenging without, for me that#s part of the fun on my second account!

- i suggest you check inara.cz for some blueprints to see, whether you don't have materials collected already to see some of the tier 1 engineers .... level 1 upgardes can already help alot with a power starved ship like a vulture

- your build: reduce KWS to D, get a bi-weave shield (it's better for extended combat in res and CZ for its recharge rate), and you will have power for a class 4 scb. scb below 4 aren't worth it at all.

- i personally don't run scb on a vulture, because those need ammo. if you don't run scb, use the freed power of the bi-weave for shieldbooster.

enjoy!

here my revised build: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/vul...m7m30824.Iw1/kA==.CwBhrSs5aA==.&bn=v revisted

The Vultures biggest problem is limited power, in it's stock form (i.e. no engineered enhancements) you have to choose between weapons, shields or thrusters essentially pick two, i'd suggest some bi-weave shields lower power drain and faster regen and rely on agility to avoid being hit too much.

The auto repair might have enough to fix the canopy and as you need to disengage from combat to start the repair sequence you'd be better just heading for a station and making repairs there, unless you're BHing at a hot nav beacon I'm not sure why you'd fit heat sinks other than to cool the shield cells that aren't really big enough to make much difference, TBH if you're shields are failing it's time to leave as 30% total regen isn't going to help that much.

Even level 1 mods on the power plant (multi roll overcharged) can gain around 10% additional power and very little drop in heat efficiency check out http://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers for details but I'd suggest Felicity Farseer as a good starting point for FSD, thrusters and power plant although you'll need to go to maia for some meta alloys to gain access.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your advice and comments...I shall be venturing out shopping for goodies later today...

I see it's a major commitment to go see these engineers, felicity is a 439Ly trip with 31 jumps from where I am, is that the only location for the exotic alloys ? but trying to think logically once I've rolled the fsd, trips will take less time being able to jump further, so I get that, but I'm wondering if beefing up the pulse weapons or shields, it might increase the mass, therefore impact on the jump range anyway...

It looks like it's the route I have to do...engineering...until now I have more or less ignored that completely, so instead of grinding the hi res to build up a nest egg, I'll change out some of the vulture compartments more suited for collecting materials, what I don't know is whether the materials need mining, stealing, buying or just blasting with the Srv weapons...I guess that will be part of the experience..learning this stuff for myself:)

Thanks again guys

If you have some spare cash I'd suggest buying a Cobra 3 as an engineering resource collector, even with stock parts it's going to have much better jump range than a Vulture and it's fast enough to outrun most ships.

I fitted a wake scanner for engineer data collection (FSD) and an SRV for mats, the lower level mods are generally considered as "burners/throwaways" as you rank up to level 5 apart from L1 powerplant mods and good L3 thruster mods

Check out this section of EDDB for mat location, you can also input your mats and data into Inara to check on what you need for each blueprint see under cargo update.

I found the Vulture to be an excellent ship for combat, yes, by turning off modules when I entered a CZ, I still use tricks I learned on the Vulture when I fly other ships to get more out of them.

Thanks guys, I've bit the bullet and spent a couple of hours getting over to Maia , from what I gather everything i need is in this system . I arrived at the Obisidian orbital without any issues whatsoever, I wasn't interdicted once ...didn't fry my butt, didn't even come close to running out of fuel...439Ly and 32 jumps....collected lots of data along the way ready to sell at farseer inc, I have a wake scanner ready to collect that data too....

I took the economical route...I was amazed by the number of uninhabited systems and amazed at the scenery. I travelled in solo, but went into open play when I docked at Obsidian, nada ...no one, not a soul about .

I have my RSV, 4 cargo racks, but can increase that if needed, I'm hoping I can " collect " or buy all the components I need for all the upgrades locally...I have inara to help....and you guys if I get stuck...

I'll let you know how the fsd upgrades go ...oh there's one thing, as you may know the system is an anarchy system, most station services are offline except for fuel...I hoping I can get the meta alloys here tomorrow before I set out, otherwise, I may have to track down the barnacles

Cheers

Try Darnielle's Progress for meta alloys and remember it's only another 500 LY or so to Felicity's base ;), yeah the "bubble" tails off about 200 LY or so from Maia then you're in the DARK!

https://eddb.io/station/market/47951

PS fly safe!

Thanks Ceekay ..I'm actually excited by getting away from the bubble, and my daily grinding hi res combat, so a change is good as a rest :) I think I will take regular pit stops to save my progress, it's a fairly long way out if I mess up.

You stay safe too buddy
