Vulture is a real sweet ride, finally got a good build!

So after my initial disappointment over the FDL price, i thought i would test out the Vulture. I docked my clipper and stripped it down to D class, then took off in a new cobra to find a vulture. Found one after a kind CMDR pointed out where they were being sold. At first i struggled with a build, and spent a good hour or so tweaking and testing. Finally came up with this.

EDIT: Updated my loadout, and reposted it above. Now got everything A rated, but no shield boosters or cells. Have to set priority 2 for FSD, Heat sink, Cargo bay, Interdictor, and fuel scoop. Just enough power then to operate the ship with hardpoints deployed. Can still use the heat sink too, if you close hardpoints, but then press heat sink button before you deploy them again. It will drop a heat sink but as the weapons are deploying and powering up, shuts it down again. So you can still use them in emergency during the power cross over.

With reduced reapir costs, im fully confident that if my shields go down i can use agility and the high armour of mil spec upgrades to tank a lot of damage, and still prevail. I feel the tradeoffs for shield cells/boosters arent worth it in such an agile ship.

Just been in a RCS for an hour and made 1.6 million. Lost count of the number of AI pythons and anacondas i killed. Easy as pie. Left with 65% hull, that cost 8k credits to fix. If you wanted the A class shields you can make it work but you have to lose the beam lasers, and run pulse lasers. This was the best build out of a few i tried that could run the beam lasers. Even as it stands, the cargo hatch, fuel scoop and interdiction device have to be shut down before combat in order to fully power the ship, but thats no big deal. Just set them to priority 2 on your module list and it is done automatically when you deploy hardpoints. The fuel scoop might only be D rated, but because it is class 4, it can fill the whole tank in 40 seconds. More than enough and i like having it as it partwat overcomes the small fuel tank the ship is stuck with.

The main compromises in this build are a loss of 28MJ of shielding by using the C class rather than A class, and also no shield cells. Its not bad at all though when you consider it has maximum agility, power recharge and firepower. The shields are still very strong, they just arent maxed out. This ship really is about how to best make compromises. Once i accepted in my head that i couldn't A class everything, it all clicked into place. I have yet to find the mil spec armour stocked anywhere, or i would have bought that too. I have just enough cash left for that, and will then have 8 mil left over. The armour limits the jump range to 15-16 LY but it will be worth it.

This ship is a beast. Though i do think it is initially overpriced, it doesn't cost very much to fully upgrade once you have it, especially to the specs i listed above. Its effectivness is also proportionate to the price in my opinion. After flying it, i do think it is worth the money. Hope some people find this useful. :)

I am using 1 beam and 1 pulse with A shield. My setup takes some power management. http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=50N,4zh5TE01Q01Q0-I0Wg,2-6Q7_6Q5U7_725A,7Sk7gy9qS10i

The problem is, flying a ship like this would make me want to actually be a force in something....anything. I'd want to be an instrument in some key battle or significant player in a change in system control etc. getting a million or so after camping a conflict zone (if you happen to find one) for an hour isn't enough to warrant trading off the guaranteed income that comes from even a T7. so for me, it still is a distraction ship. Not something i'd settle into it.

No doubt it is a combat ship with no other use.

I ground out 90 mill from trading before now. That was enough for me. Some people just go on and on grinding, i don't know how they do it. It bores me to tears. I parked my clipper up, and will go back to trading in it at some point. The vulture cost less than 40 mil to fully equip, 60 mil if you can find the mil spec armour. Its a welcome diversion, and now i can do combat when i like and trading when i like without compromising one or the other.

It royally poops over any other ship up to i don't even know what. I would have to pvp some people in it to truly know, but nothing PVE can withstand it except superior numbers. Its a lot of ship for the money, even though it doesn't seem like it at first. Anyway, im not trying to change people's minds just trying to throw some information out there as i heard a lot of people slating the Vulture.

I forgot to add that the power management is so extreme I loose life support and weapons when I switch on shield cell. So far it has worked out fine but I need more time to be sure.

Mil spec is available in HIGH TECH systems mostly. KOKOJINA has em.

My Vulture.

If someone has a brilliant idea how to get rid of that last 0,01 MW that I have too much, I am all ears. ;-)

All the armour types were available at Q1 Eridani where I picked it up from. I can't find Large Gimbled Beams anywhere though. I did manage to find burst lasers eventually, but not so sure about them, can only get sustained fire for 12 sec or so with 4 pips in weapons, actually felt like I was doing more damage with pulse tbh...

Still really not sure about this one, it's like the Viper power management issues all over again but without the ability to fall back on munitions when the power runs out :\

I reposted a new build i now use in my OP, its brilliant.

On a separate note, i can't find any RES locations anymore, have they been removed for now or something? I have been to places that previously had them and they aren't there now. Anyone found one recently, like today?

60 mil? I kitted a vulture in 25 million.

You can use a C3 cannon and an energy weapon, its efficient at killing things and have less power issues.

You can sacrifice the Auto Maintenance, and if you sport two Class A shield boosters and ditch the SCB's you'll save power and sport nearly 550 MJ of shield. Not a big fan of SCB's. Running without SCB's teaches me combat discipline. Everything is great until my HUD lies to me and tells me I have an SCB left in the can when I don't. It's happened. With no SCB's, what I see is what I get, and when I'm running low, it's time to disengage.

5B power distributor saves you 8 MW and only costs 4MJ transfer on weapons and 3MJ transfer on systems.

In my Vulture times (times that I'm not proud of :D) I found that there's a place for gimballed guns. Vulture is not that place.
_
I'd also lose the PDTs, fuel scoop, and armour. They add no value to anything.

With all modules A-rated and a couple of fixed beams, it was only the time of day that made me disengage in PvE. Also won a couple of PvPs despite anxiety (and stupidity) and the ever-present lag forcing me to solo most of the time.
