Ships Vulture, or FAS?

I've put in days rolling around in my Vulture, the pride of my small fleet when it comes to combat (my Python is mainly for trading). She's a beautiful machine, takes a beating and dishes it out just as well. But I'm almost to Chief Petty Officer, and I've heard good things about the FAS. Can it replace my aging Vulture? Is it a good enough replacement? If it is, I may end up selling the Vulture to up my funding. What does the community think?

They are both great fighting tanks, but the added hardpoints and slots make the FAS bigger and better than the Vulture IMO.
I BH with my Vulture and haunt CZs with my FAS.
Long Live The Alliance!

Hail and well met o7 but honestly, that's what I was thinking. The added hardpoints just makes it that much more appealing. Once I hit CPO I'll pull out of Sothis and pick an FAS up on my way home.

The FAS is a great ship and in some ways as good or better than the Vulture. Having said that, keep your Vulture, don't ever sell it. The Vulture is the perfect low cost heavy fighter. If you're board with her, buy a ship kit and engineer the heck out of her. Start with the frameshift drive and power plant. She is the perfect ship to go to for a quick war zone evening with some friends. Cheap re-buy and perfect for a quick assassination mission. Now that's just my 2 cents. The only ship I've sold is the Sidewinder and all my other ships are special purpose ships ranging all the way up to my Cutter. Believe me you'll never regret it.

Both are great and worth keeping. Don't replace the Vulture. Park it if you must. The FAS is a hull tank, so keep that in mind. I'll see if I can dig up some fights in both ships.

Love the FAS. I call it the Vulture on Steroids. Once I became accustomed to flying it, I sold the Vulture and haven't owned one since.

I also liked the fact that the thing is a bloody tank. Lost my shields? No biggie, all pips to weps and engines and party on. :)

From technical standpoint what it makes an FAS to be more efficient than a Vulture is simply
because it has not those electrical issues. In a Vulture Power management is a must, but
in an FAS there is much less suffering and compromise needed.

On the other hand you will have to pay the price for that type of convenience.

Regards,
Miklos

If your Vulture is un engineered sell the parts or transfer them to the FAS as you'll lose 10% on the stock ship+parts so i'd suggest storage and rebuild when funds are available, the only slight downside with the FAS is the shields they're going to be average at best whereas the Vultures are good for it's size and agility.

Probably the best thing about the FAS compared to the Vulture is as mentioned above is the lack of power issues, with FAS you can have a much greater choice of weapon loadouts here's a few I've tried

Thanks for the tips! My Vulture is currently running 2 engineered pulses which really wreck, so I may end up keeping it just in case. I've had power issues in the past, hence why I named her the "Power Struggle"

Tagging on to your thread because I have a slightly different question that would have the same subject line...

I'm a new commander that's been mostly doing trading, passengers, surface missions in my trusty AspX. Now I'd like to get better at the combat side of things (blowing up DBXs and Cobras that interdict me doesn't really count). I have the first 3 engineers unlocked and about 125M credits in cash sitting around (I'd rather not sell my AspX if at all possible, though I could transfer some engineered parts). Would you recommend that I start off in a Vulture? go back to an Eagle/Viper? or do a few more missions and jump right into a FAS? (I'm only 30% of a rank away).

The Vulture is a great place to start. Cheap, effective, and a good rebuy. It helped me learn how to effectively fight while being very forgiving on my credit balance

I would recommend getting the vulture first it is cheaper to improve and you'll spend all your money and more to improve an FAS

Put in some work at the CG, and my Vulture (despite being assisted by some other commanders) was still able to hold steady. Those Bi-Weaves really come in handy! (And a wing mate running heals)
