Waiting for Elite is Pure Torture

Not many games I get excited about anymore before release. However this one really grinds on me. Especially with the alpha coverage and the videos coming out. Personally I love the look of the game thus far. In the capital ship battle sequence I love how you can see the solar system on approach vector and it slowly fills in and then BAM! So so cool. The HUD effects and targeting systems. I could go on and on about the little details that just ooze passion.

Now this docking video that looks like I'm going in for a landing at B5 itself complete with all the docking lights and rotation just blows me away. From start to finish it looked amazing. Combat also looks really really fun in Elite Dangerous. I know there are some big space games in the works but honestly after seeing all the coverage Elite looks to be the real deal. I was disappointed we couldn't land on planets out of the box but if that experience is as polished looking as the space flight then it can wait.

I honestly don't expect this game to be out until 2015 at the earliest but from what I've seen so far it will be worth the wait. It's just driving me crazy waiting for it heh. You guys get all that fun making it and testing it and watching others testing it. How I envy you guys :) Anyways I just wanted to drop by and say WOW keep up the good work. I'm blown away. Back to my Banished hehe my people dream of Starships...

It is a very long and frustrating wait, yes. In fact I'm excited about the travelling and trading module because that for me is the glue that bind the Elite experience together. But that is now a month away. C'mon beta!

its really hard for me cause its the type of game i miss so hard...

I soaked in the tie fighter lucas art games back in teh days..

The alpha coverage and surrounding hype is a problem, not least because Alpha is dragging on far, far longer than we were originally led to expect (yes, yes, deadlines are notorious etc etc, but I honestly thought FD were much more savvy about such things given their past experiences and being a matured software house).

The way that FD are treating non-Alpha backers is also rather noteworthy, "second class" is a phrase I would use. This is due to their being distracted with development and attending promotional events, nothing deliberate.

But once Alpha is past, it wil alll become but a dim memory. I am really looking forward to seeing the final product.

personally i'm glad of the wait, it gives me time to save up for a HOTAS warthog and also gives Oculus Rift time to finish their retail version.

hopefully they will both come out at around the same time although as a backer i wouldn't mind if OR got to market first as then it will be available during gamma testing ;)

Dragging on is a good word to describe the Alpha process. 4 months in and we are at least seeing a little of what the final product might, I'm glad alpha 3.0 is out and that I've finally glimpsed the station, but I really just want to get to the travelling and trading part.
