I have been thinking, (never a good sign)
does everyone like that you get your ship back right away after destruction?
Personally I like the idea of after you are blown up, you get a message saying your ship is currently on transit from (insert nearest high tec star port here......) and will be with you with in (insert time frame, limited to a max time).
now obviously no one likes downtime waiting, so, I would also suggest to pass the time on this being able to do missions whilst waiting.
so, as another poster touched on in a thread, if its a busy risky system, you could take out a police ship for a mission to patrol for a set amount of time (the ship they give you depending on the standing you are with that factor OR how much they trust you).
OR
if you are an illegal you could go out for a pirate faction, or if you are on a mining colony, take out a ship to mine.
obviously you would take a wage as opposed to all the profits as you are being employed and not using your own gear.
I see multiple advantages here,
1) it gives us a chance to fly ships / do roles we do not normally do
2) it adds to the realism of the game (it is meant to be a sim after all)
3) it stops a pilot getting back in their ship and immediatly going after who ever shot them
4) and indeed I believe it was what was initially in the plan for Elite 4, where we were not even going to have our own ship at the start but have to earn one.
IF you really did not want to wait, then you could be offered what ever ship and load out closest to your set up is in stock, along with the cash to make up the difference??? obviously if the ship is in stock its a moot point.
