"Waiting in queue"?

You arrive at a station, request docking, get allocated a pad, throttle to zero, your DC kicks in.... and then you get the "waiting in queue" message.

What's that all about?

You've already been allocated a pad to land at so that pad MUST already be vacant and waiting for you to land on it.
Nothing enters or leaves the station while you are "waiting in queue".
And then, when you get sick of waiting, you throttle up, fly through the mailslot, TTZ again and the DC lands you without delay.

Anybody know what set of circumstances actually provoke the "waiting in queue" message to appear?

Usually an Orca gets itself stuck inside the docking bay. Another commander interrupted him, and the demented AI can't find its way back to the slot. Doesn't happen in Solo.

What's your reputation with the stations controlling faction? I've found that if it's high enough they'll sweep the pad before land.

If I get a "waiting in queue" then I tend to put down my beer, finish the refreshment break early and pop it in manually.
I don't like waiting in queues - I'm playing E : D not Tesco simulator :D
Edit: I'm solo only and it still happens to me occasionally, so no idea what triggers it.

Waiting In Queue.. it happens at stations where their computer docking system runs on Linux. Traffic Control has to run a sudo Apt-Get HowDoILandThis and the system they cobbled together out of the wreckage found drifting around in the area just isn't really up to the task, but hey, it was free.

I just throttle up and land it myself when I see that.

Waiting in Queue...

If your dependent on your D.C. Just take over your ship by throttling up and take it through the entrance. When completely through and clear of the entrance (make sure you are or the D.C. Will do a U turn right in the entrance and put you back in the que) then throttle back and the D.C. Will take over and dock you.

Oh yes it does...

But it can be any number of ships that have forgotten how to fly out of the entrance It does clean itself up eventually or you just nose yourself into the entrance & reactivate the DC once you are inside for the last bit.

Yeah.

I once saw two NPC Belugas launch from opposite sides of the station at the same time.

That wasn't pretty. [where is it]

It's always funny (and scary as all hell) when the station does some in house cleaning whilst you are trying to land...

do people still use that thing? LOL

Whats funny, is the same Ai that is controlling NPC's in & out of the station (or gets stuck in the statio) is the Ai that is used (temporarily) for the DC, if that isn't enough to scare people off using it I don't know what is!

From what I've found queuing is part of gameplay effecting docking computers. I'm allied to the controlling faction in a boom state and always use the one Coriolis type station they control. My rep is high with them so I'm never held in a queue and the letterbox is always clear. If I mess up a mission or two and lower my rep with them I get held in a queue and get a frosty/indifferent voice coms reception for a while.

Solution: sell DC ;) It is slower than docking manually and will crash your ship.
They work perfectly well and are great for repeat trading, smuggling or point to point travel. An added bonus is if under DC control and you get rammed there is no fine.

If you get a "Waiting in Queue" prompt advance the throttle and get through the mail slot. Once past the threshold, zero the throttle. The DC will take over and land you.

Just make sure there's no Beluga behind you or you might end up with your nose buried in the back of the station while the DC gets all confused and the "pacification turrets" help to get you out of the way.
