walk inside your ship?

They've said not at this time, they basically said (as I recall) that they didn't yet have a gameplay purpose for it that aligned with their goals, so it didn't make sense as a development priority, and they weren't actively working on it. It would be a great deal of work and probably would involve some redesigns of different game systems, not to mention probably a decent amount of technical (not user facing) redesigns. It's definitely possible though, and the developers have likely spent a good amount of time thinking about how they would do this since it was originally part of the grand plan of the games development. When and if we might see ship interiors is unknown though, they haven't outright said it was canned forever even though that seems to be the rumor.

Interesting little tidbit, a couple years ago when they did an FAQ about Odyssey before its release, in it the question of whether or not there would be ship interiors in Odyssey was raised, and the answer given was "Not at launch", which implies to me that they definitely weren't ready to rule it out, and possibly even had some plans further down the line.

Yes, it is hard to do. If the game lives long enough it will probably eventuate. Plan is too strong a word for Frontier, aspiration maybe.

Hm.. I dont think theres anything in my icourier that world fit exept maybe toilet :D so it would ve wasted on me

I remember FDev saying that. However, I think most people would prefer to see and walk through their space ships vs walking across the hangar every time they visit a concourse. Personally I am not sure how meaningful the hangar is. Our ships however have meaning to each of us.

As other games demonstrate, actually enabling walking in ships can be difficult, have a look at Star Citizen as an example of how not to do it, while they have walking in ships, and indeed space stations, a lot of people die just walking around, fall through their ships and the floors of stations, fall through ramps, die for silly things, it's not an easy thing to get right. Even the beta of legs in Odyssey had a lot of people ending up outside of stations due to bugs, walking in ships while the ships are actually in motion becomes an entirely more difficult undertaking, it is hard to do right and would require a major amount of work, so to do all that just so that people can walk around in their ships is probably not justified at this stage.

Exactly this. As far as I'm aware it's not possible currently with the engine, to have ship interiors that could be walked through. At least not whilst the ship is moving. If they were to do it, it'd probably be whilst it's stationary, so whilst landed. That'd kind of defeat the point of having ship interiors at all and would be a waste of Devs time.

As a compromise, we have Fleet Carrier interiors instead. These work differently because Fleet Carriers are stationary when we walk around them. As soon as they move via a jump, we are forced to sit down and there's always a warning before it moves too. Plus that Carrier is persistent in the whole Galaxy. Our own ships are not.

Hey! Maybe they could get 1of the less than a dozen devs at Egosoft to show them how it's done.

Maybe they should, once the devs get trained up in the Cobra Engine and understand how that's different than the engine used at Egosft, of course the devs at Egosoft aren't simulating an entire galaxy with realistic orbital mechanics and gravity, different engines for different purposes you know.

Pretty sure Lord Brebus mentioned walking around ships in the Kickstarter.
Why would they develop an engine that can't accommodate that?

You do realise the Cobra Engine has been in development since 1988, and the current iteration of Elite Dangerous was kickstarted in 2014, so the current Cobra Engine is just the latest in a long development process that may indeed not have been able to support what they wanted in 2014, but of course the only ones that can really answer that question is FDEV.

Hi, I wonder if you plan in the game to be able to walk inside your ship? Why don't you have this? Is it hard to have this?
Mid-flight, it would be hard. First they'd need to add a tea spoon model (so that you can scrape your remains off the windscreen because ships have no artificial gravity, acceleration can be insane and there's that thing called inertia).

While docked, it would be simply pointless without any kind of gameplay purpose.

FDev only does things that include meaningful gameplay.

@OP The last word from Frontier is that players would get bored of it quickly and there are no plans to include ship interiors.
