Walkable Space Stations

I was just wondering if Frontier had any plans for players to be able to walk about and interact with the space stations (visit bars etc).
I know there are plans for players to walk about their and other players ships but to interact with and walk around stations would be a really great addition too.

Maybe the title "Walkable Space Stations" wasn't the right title, it gives me an image of a space station with legs..

It is my understanding they are wanting to add that sort of thing in the future, but this year won't focus on that. It may or may not ever happen, so I just appreciate what we have until then.

This was definitely mentioned, by Frontier, that they want to do this, however; there is no ETA on it. One thing, I (we), know for sure is, the interior of our ships are all designed. Every now and then we see a video (maybe it's happened to you) where your ship glitches out and the camera pans through the ship revealing all the different, fully detailed rooms. So, this tells me they are getting close to maybe announcing something about Space Legs. I think next year would be the first possibility of this happening.

Like everyone else has said, Space Legs is on FDev's radar, but it's not necessarily coming Soon(TM). I think that the installations that they added a few updates ago are part of them preparing for Space Legs. I can't remember who said it, but someone said that FDev adds assets to the game when they're finished, so there may be no gameplay associated with it, yet.

It's certainly something to look forward to, there are lots of content planned over the next couple of years (so they say), so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I've decided that a lack of legs doesn't lessen the game for me at least. I play MFSX fairly often.

You don't see me asking about legs there. And it's regarded as a very good simulator.

No Elite game has ever had legs.

I'll be honest. I think the only reason people ask for legs so much, is because Star Citizen has them.

Thing is though... The flight model in Star Citizen is utter crap.

I'll play my fun flight model, thanks very much.

I can see this being cool, walking around and eventually in first person mode shooting insect that goods on their home world bases. I don't think this will happen soon.

Eventually. I would like to go see mechanics and special missions by walking in station

Fdev I hope do smething eventually in order to fend off SC, SC let's you walk about etc.

i find myself having to agree with ... this game is not a walk around type of situation . People assume this has to compete with star citizen .... lets keep elite dangerous separate from "that" work in progress .

thanks .

Aye. I've looked at Star Citizen, as I was, at one point, interested in buying a small package. (despite the multi thousands of pounds offerings in their store, they do actually have a fair number of reasonably priced offerings)

I decided not to back, when it became apparent to me that the developers are not making a space flight game. It's an FPS with basic flying... But from what I've seen, it's heavy on the FPS.

I see no reason why ED & SC cannot coexist. They're totally different games, with massively different objectives.

My opinion stands. I think people only want space legs because SC.

But I don't think there's anything to worry about there.

I've always wanted to be able to walk around my own ship at least. That'd also open the door to adding NPC crew, even if they're only cosmetic, and maybe even bridge crew...

Maybe I've been watching too much Star Trek. Well, a man can dream anyways.

Star Citizen, I suspect, will only be accessible to the very best PC rigs.

It's hugely ambitious.

The good thing about that is, for Elite, is that Elite becomes the game for all.

I suspect the new "Crysis" of gaming will indeed be SC.

That means not a lot of people will be able to run it.

Granted, SC devs have always said it's a game for high spec computers.

Elite on the other hand, has been successfully ran on a Raspberry Pi mini-computer. This is a good thing.

(I'm not saying you should run the game on a Pi. But it goes to show how much more friendly our game is)

Well, this ain't Star Citizen!

but... I believe that David Braben has mentioned that it's possible and would be nice to have players walk around stations and such but there has to be something to do whilst doing that, there must be an aim in the game play not just to do it because you can.
Visiting bars and offices to collect tips and missions would ideal for such an addition... interacting with other players too (or are we just gonna shoot each other on sight) but there really has to be more to it than that.

I do wish people would stop pitching Elite against Star Citizen... it's not one or the other... YOU CAN HAVE BOTH!

if a orrery view of a system is more than they can implement, I suspect walking may be a bit down the line.

People ask for legs because it was promised early on by the developers.

True. I'll give you that. It is quite the trump card.

I do wonder if we'd have the same demand though, if SC didn't exist.

I'm fairness, the last sentence of yours isn't so valid here. This is the Xbox board.
