Walking and Building

I've perused the forums and I know there is a lot of speculation that "legs" will be a far-distant update, perhaps one some of us never live to see. And one of the more sensible reasons for this is "set dressing" - the time-consuming issue of applying appropriate decoration to all of the environments that would be required for players to "get out and walk".

So I had a novel idea for that particular problem: let the players do the decorating.

Give us the tools to be "architects" on existing structures that need to be described visually, and then submit those decorations for review - sorta the way that architects submit proposals. Then install the best one. It would essentially be crowd-sourcing interior location decoration. And give the players CREDITS for successfully submitting a proposal. That way Frontier only has to develop the mechanics, and then let the player-base develop the setting!

Sounds like a great idea. FDEV only need to do a few core bubble planets and then let community do the rest. Of course, if you want to build a habitat 6,000 Lyrs out then YOU need to get the materials there.... or CG... or groups....

Hate to say this, but as an income stream, builders may have to put up product advertisements on their creations :) i.e "This Biome Sponsored by Ford". LOL.

Another idea is foresting a planet, buying a geo-terraforming module etc. etc: Opening the terraforming module page tells you what bodies it can be used on... then you get told what resources you need to do what action. Awesome. Planets could then be labelled "Discovered by Maudibe : Terraformed by Lestat" for example. What benefit, I hear you ask - well once terraformed then additional resources are available. The terraformer receives a small (1%) cut on any exports. The sidelines are limitless.

If it were possible to claim a planet and start building an outpost on it I would gladly spend as much time as needed hauling goods back and forth to get the thing built.
