Walking around in cockpit for explorers is needed!

I haven't done a lot of exploration, some, and when I was out deep in space, I got space madness. I found myself staring at the galmap, and just going from star to star almost aimlessly. I think to break the monotony, cockpit legs is very important. It will give a nice and alternate view. Yeah, I may be in deep space, but it would be nice to go and sit at the captains mess while parked at some random star that I'm calling home for the night, maybe have a wing mate on board and just hang out. I would love to be able to decorate the inside of my ship and look out a side window.

Odyssey is going to completely change this game for the better! I can't wait, and I would also love to hear that someday we can walk around in our ships too.

I walk around my ships all the time while exploring and mining in Space Engineers. It does help with the immersion and sense of scale. In ED, I have VR so I can walk around the cockpit and look out the side windows, though my room is too small and tether too short to fully explore bigger bridges like the Anaconda or Beluga.

I also personally want the simple pleasure of small things for my Holo-Me Cmndr after days in the black mining/exploring. Like after entering a system, scan for hostilities to determine the threat situation. Then being able to
1. drop out of SC, kill FSD and park his ship then
2. stand up, walk to a small mess area (an optional module you have to buy for your ship for budding chefs on the go),
3. Open the cupboard and grab his most favorite mug from his 30 or so Hutton Orbital coffee mug collection and
4. make himself a SIMPLE, LONG AND OVERDUE cup of vacuum infused Java, then
5. head back to the cockpit,
6. put up his feet on the dash next to his Sidey bobble head and
7. enjoy the FREE pyrotechnics light show of the Empire Strikes Back vs. the less Federation. Or perhaps the Alliance pulling some skulll duggery trolling the hapless denizen factions of said star system. Or perhaps it's just a bunch of unknown factions having a go at each other. Or combination of all the above.,,,

Regardless, that would make for some terrific live, drive in movie entertainment!

edit: oh and to be able to admire the latest exotic flora I manually picked up on a planet somewhere. Would make for a nice conversational piece on a small display table somewhere on the ship :)

One of the maddest ideas I ever read on here, actually, strike that, the absolutely maddest I idea I ever read on here was someone who wanted a hub where players could meet up, in it was a casino where you bet real money. Not in game money, not ARX. REAL money.

I think about that suggestion a lot and wonder if there was some sort of addiction behind it.

I was totally onboard with everything you said until the part with real money. I think addiction is probably a good assumption there.

i don't need walking around in my DBEs cockpit. but this sample group of explorers is 100% sure, that exploring would be so much better with cockpit cats.

and the possibility to leave the ship and EVA around. even with a fade to black transition.

one of the two.* 100% of the explorers here want that. now.

(* small seismic charges would make the exploration game for the rest of the explorers almost as much better, as cockpit cats)

I have done some exploration, but I'm dead serious here: space legs won't help space madness. When you say: "I found myself staring at the galmap, and just going from star to star almost aimlessly." Ask yourself: if you had legs, how could it possibly break that monotony? Exploration needs risks, sense of danger, feeling of unknown, some skill for player to survive the black, know how to maintain and preserve the ship. For galactic objects you find to have at least some purpose.

All exploration is about right now, is staring at galmap, and aimlessly jump from star to star... Some e-book, podcast or show in the corner of the screen could help with that monotony, but it's not gameplay, as well as legs won't be any gameplay either.

Thats the sort of mad idea that gets Chris Roberts attention.

It's amazing given how microtransactions are the game's only real source of income, that FD have put so little effort into making these things happen, despite plenty of player suggestions. It's free money almost. There's people out there that want to spend money on this game and there's nothing to buy after you've gotten all the ship kits and paintjobs you want. I want empty cans and crisp packets floating around my cockpit. I want fluffy dice and a ship's cat. I want a coffee cup and a hula girl bobblehead. Goddamit, give me junk to customize my cockpit with. It's the only thing we actually get to see in-game and it's practically the same for everyone barring some fridge magnets and string lights.

Yep. Definitely. The first thing i also noticed that was missing from the game after starting out. Just to get up and look out the window would be an interesting start.

+1 player housing in the cockpit area would be a great thing to do. Its probably the only thing to do for single player.

Great suggestions!! Now im dreaming again.

I would love to be able to walk around cockpit, but I'm fairly certain it would get old pretty fast without something to do there - and the only thing to do in cockpit right now is to sit in the chair and fly the damn thing. I mean, being able to just look through various windows would be nice, but you would do that couple of times and then forgot about it. It would certainly not help space madness. You would be just space mad walking around, hoping for something else to do.
But yeah. I would walk.
Then I would start hoping to be able to open those damn doors in the back of the room, go down the stairs and play squash in cargo bay.

I am fortunate in that I have never felt that desire, mind you having a full sized reproduction of a Phantom cabin and ancillary rooms as a gaming accessory probably helps, I can use the Phantom coffee maker, use the Phantom toilet and lay in the Phantom bed any time I want! <- uhh that was a joke just in case anyone takes it seriously, but hey we can all dream ;)

This

Which is basically all the fundamental capabilities like this that we currently have in Space Engineers to date.

Space Engineers really approached the EVA immersion aspect of the game right. FDev needs to be taking notes
