To what purpose?I think many players who wish for more immersion would be glad to walk around in cockpit. Its already fully modeled on all ships and walking around is implemented with odyssey. So it seems rather simple to make this possible ?
Thats a strange question. You could also ask what is the purpose of a soundtrack if it doesn't add gameplay. Or animations like the deployment of the slf .... its about the atmosphere in generalTo what purpose?
So things like weapon effects or lighting effects would be a waste of code for you?Total waste of code if it's just for eye candy. So NO.
I hate to break it to you, but not all cockpits are fully modeled, and in fact I'd say that most are not fully modeled at the level of fidelity you'd want before allowing people to freely walk around in them. Its already fully modeled on all ships
Opening your response with an insult won't win you any adherents.Thats a strange question. You could also ask what is the purpose of a soundtrack if it doesn't add gameplay. Or animations like the deployment of the slf .... its about the atmosphere in general
To be fair, you asked for the purpose of these changes, which they already mentioned in the first sentence of the comment you replied to. In that sense, without intending offense, I too would agree it's a strange question.Opening your response with an insult won't win you any adherents.
If all you want is the ability to get out of the seat, wander the relatively small room and get back in the seat, no, I do not consider that "atmosphere", just as I do not consider a requirement to get up, access the door controls, walk down an accessway and go through an airlock to get out a worthwhile game loop. You can already look around the cockpit in PC just by moving the mouse.
Unless you have some sort of game play attached, getting up from the chair isn't something most people are going to do more than a couple of times because it never changes.
So, getting out of the chair and walking around an otherwise empty room with no interactables would make you feel the game had more depth? To be fair, you asked for the purpose of these changes, which they already mentioned in the first sentence of the comment you replied to. I'm not OP. Also, OP clearly stated they want this for immersion purposes. I don't think they said anything about interactables not being included/allowed.So, getting out of the chair and walking around an otherwise empty room with no interactables would make you feel the game had more depth?
I agree. In fact, Elite is FULL of wasted code. For example, all non-landable planets are pure eye candy, so Frontier should have just placed a generic circle with a text label "gas giant" instead all the time and effort wasted on modeling accurate images of planets.Total waste of code if it's just for eye candy. So NO.
Indeed. If only we could take Elite back to the elegance and efficiency of text-based gaming.I agree. In fact, Elite is FULL of wasted code. For example, all non-landable planets are pure eye candy, so Frontier should have just placed a generic circle with a text label "gas giant" instead all the time and effort wasted on modeling accurate images of planets.
Oh how I miss the good ol' days when Elite was an optimized wireframe that fit in 64K and only required two guys to code. Elite Dangerous should be renamed to "Elite: Waste Of Code". Utter rubbish!
