Walking Around Space Stations - What Would You Like To See?

Hi All,

I've been thinking about when we finally get to walk around outside of our spaceships what we could do space stations etc. Obviously, i'd like to see Bars/Shops and other meeting points but what about an Arcade when you could play old Frontier games? Maybe even a Retro Arcade where you could play the first Elite.

It would be strange, but very cool to be playing Elite inside Elite Dangerous.

Id like to be able to get jobs as a bounty hunter then go and speak to some shady sorts and maybe for a fee gain some more information or tips on the job from them. Maybe the information is real maybe it isn't...depending on how much the shady character likes how you do business (ie allegiance, pirate or not)

Well, to stick to game-play and not just plain sight-seeing (which I would totally do!), finding missions of various sorts.

Smuggling, finding passengers and what not.

Beside that, meeting other players and making friends, seeing the police chase someone because they run everywhere (who does that!? :p) and perhaps try some space sim in that arcade (try out a Lakon without risking life and limb -- or PvP matches for those into that)...

And, and, and... lots more. :D

I like the idea of being able to walk into a bar and take on a job to take a couple of people to another system, walking back to my ship, having to fight of a load of security police that are after the passengers and blasting out of the space port before making a jump to hyperspace.

Hang on, where have I seen that before?

Lot of strange encounters (refugees, some Hans Solo, illegal goods, help in investigation, recruiting, passengers, etc.) which would give me additional missions which I couldn't find on BBS.

Give place for pilots to hang out too. As we won't have public chat, it would be nice way to have it.

I know it's not popular, but I'd like to see virtually everything on Frontier's space-based TODO list before walking around in space stations. Seems like nothing other than adding a bit of colour to missions and the like, when there is so much to add during the time you're sitting in the cockpit.

Oddly I was just thinking about the topic of this thread today and there are lots of great ideas on here.

I'd just like to be away from the ship for a while doing other stuff on stations. I think even walking around in some of the lovely garden areas would be nice, sure walking around on it's own is not enough and would get a tad boring quickly but as I said there are other great ideas listed here.

What can we do when walking around in GTA? All of that and more please... I know this is a massive job, but can we have a procedurally generated living universe? I want my stations to feel lived in... I want to be able to interact with them.... I want to throw my drink in someone's face and start a riot! I want to listen to Commander Remklep singing I will survive!!!! I also want to drive one of those cars round the docking bay :D

I would like to see NO walking around anywhere in this game... sick of walking in games...

I don't think anyone is going to force you... As long as the critical ship interface/Interaction mechanics remain intact, I don't see why you would need to get up out of your chair.

That being said, the game possibilities are huge, so I am very pro EVA and look forward being able to take a break from piloting but still be in game (and I don't just mean sitting in a virtual bar doing nothing), discovering new locations, missions, etc...

Let alone the ability to run around my ship and get my lifeless piece of junk flying again.

Would like to see areas with little to no gravity. Would help a lot with the immersion to see hoiw the design of a staion (or better yet a ship interior) is made with that in mind.

I am right in assuming ships in Elite does not have gravity aboard, yes? I mean the stations rely on rotation to fake it, so no "gravity generators" there. I am assuming a ship simply will do without (except really big ones we can not yet controll, which could have rotating sections) or but the whole ship on a roll axis. Certainly, looking around in the Cobra cockpit shows a fair amount of handles that look like they could be there to assist with moving about in zero gravity.

/Merf - Not really a gameplay feature perhaps but still...

Correct there is no artificial gravity only what is generated by spinning.
I also like your idea a lot.

.... a no weapons policy so that CoD types don't simply camp the high ground in a station and PK any players who are stupid enough to pop their head up....

What was that big space station in Mass Effect 1 or 2? Those who have played the game will probably know what I mean. The game only gave you limited access to this huge open area and it used some visual tricks to make it look larger than what it really was. Now that would be awesome to be able to explore with NPCs available in bars or shops to give missions or maybe speciality shops selling equipment upgrades not available elsewhere.

I was happy with mass effect stations, but that was a different kind of game. Anyway if you can get a mission agents/job contacts, bounty office, casino, bar, clothes shops and a nice park to walk in, it would sum it up for me.. If you can fit and repair your ship from inside, it is not necessary to have this options in station.

Oh you mean the Citadel. It was meant to be really vast, but never really felt that big. Kind of the same thing with Halo. The Halo ring was meant to be vast, but most of the time it felt like you were stuck in a small field. Depending how they do it, potentially a single Coriolis could have a playing area bigger than all the GTA games combined.
