Walking simulator game for elderly people.

My dad is pretty old and has a condition where he can't walk and his balance is completely shot. He just sits in his chair most of the time as anything else is an exhausting effort for him.
I was just wondering if there were any 'games' of the emerging Walking Simulator type that might be nice for him.
He doesn't know how to use a computer AT ALL and is not remotely interested in them, but a simple first person thing walking around lovely countryside might be nice for him.
He'd not be interested in any fighty gameplay - and to much 'game mechanic' type stuff generally would probably make it too complicated for him.
So literally a walking sim - just to give him something to do and present him with some nice sights - and to give the vague illusion of the ability to move around.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter looks beautiful but there's too much gameplay mechanic sophistication for him.
Can anyone think of anything really simple that might fit the bill?

Thanks gang! :)

Well just a thought but my Dad was pretty impressed with google cardboard (the £10 virtual reality demo that works with iphone/android). He spent ages visiting all the google streetview locations in virtual reality walking about the eifel tower and the canals of venice etc.. So that could be a winner. It's very easy to use, you just point your head and it has one button to move in that direction. It's even pretty fun virtually walking down your own street in google cardboard.

Thanks Nerwan

That's definitely something I would consider if Dad had a mobile, (and I'll explore it as an option for my Sony Xperia (Android) and then let him have a go on it.) but I was thinking more of something that would play on the laptop we got for him. A laptop which is currently gathering dust as he isn't really interested.
I'll look into the Cardboard options, but any other suggestions?

Not that its any help right now but id imagine that the new upsurge in VR might be of some help to your dad in the not too far future, theres bound to be loads of things out for that soon. My dad is getting on also and I know something like letting him feel as if hes walking the grand canyon in VR would be amazing.

Anyways hope you find something.

Witcher 3 on easy mode is an idea.

Really nice landscapes and you can walk for hours with no encounters.

There are some nice barmaids too - but he doesn't have to go into the bars :D

How about Arma3?

Create a mission in the editor with the player as a civilian using Chernarus as the game map.

Maybe add a civilian traffic and animals module.

That really is a nice map to walk around.

Get a copy of Unity and follow some YouTube tutorials (or the official ones). You can get enough free assets off the asset store to populate a safe world to walk around and setting up a basic stroller game is very easy - PM if you want help.

Unity is free unless you earn over $100,000 so no license issues either.

Dear Esther (pure walking simulator with very little puzzle elements but with a fantastic narrative story and a soothing voice actor)
Vanishing of Ethan Carter (2014 next best game if you ask me)
The Old City: Leviathan
Homesick (soothing and calming with puzzle elements)
Gone Home (great story with a lot of nostalgic 90's references)
Mind: Path to Thalamus (puzzle)
The Lost Valley (release 20/4)

The Town of Light (horror)
Soma (horror)
Kholat (horror)
Amnesia (horror)
Layers of Fear (strong psychological horror)

Walking simulators are awesome! :)
