the only way to give credits is to drop out cargo
that means 24.000 per ton platinum means about 2292 cargo drops.

Huh? (off topic). How do you get 120 tons for cargo in your ASP? I thought I used every slot optimally, and I have no more than 96 tons.

If you exchange one 8 ton cargoholds with a class 3 shield generator and put a class 5 cargohold where the class 5 shild generator was.

But as I like to have a fight every now and then, while I'm not particularly good at it, I'd rather keep my shields as powerful as possible.

You should try a new ingame career: Beggar!
Use an online tool to find a good trade route, you can be certain that others have found it as well. Position your ship in front of the station that buys palladium or something else expensive. Hail every incoming ship and ask for donations. (Might want to change your Asp for a T6 with cheap components so you look "poorer").
