Want to make sure this is correct

So I am grinding along doing really small trade in a sidewinder when I finally get enough cash/decide to buy a hauler. And get stuck with less range than my sidewinder.

Is this supposed to happen? It seems a bit silly that I can't go as far in a empty hauler than a full sidewinder. I am sure the sidewinder is smaller, but what is the point of buying a bigger ship if the engine is not bigger as well.

I basically was in Ovid, bought the hauler, and now can't jump back to Opala due to the range. I am stuck making cargo runs Chi Herculis and Magec because its the only places I can jump to.

Should I jut take the loss and go back to the sidewinder?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Jump range is mass and fuel amount dependent, so you could try selling off any excess equipment that you may have.

Best bet in a hauler is to strip the laser off it and not upgrade anything that will add weight. The hauler is definitely an "entry level" trader ship and the range is pretty weak. But it carries 4 times more cargo than the sidewinder.

I was grinding with the sidewinder until I got the hauler the extra cargo space makes up for the short range.

Engine size is a positive, weiht, mass, amount of cargo and amount of equipment are negatives ....and all ships have diferent positives and negatives.

In later releases we should be able to update the engines in ships making them more cutomizable as well.

Thanks for the replys, I guess I just bought the hauler in the wrong place. Oh well, will grind between the points I can get to and then bounce up to a Cobra.
