WANTED: Black Hole

A couple friends and I have just started playing about a week ago and we all really want to see a black hole or something equally fascinating in this crazy galaxy of ours. We are currently in Frey and we are wondering if anyone knows of any nearby black holes or other awesome locations near us.

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Isn't the Pleiades the nearest black hole to the bubble? It's about 300Lyr out, I think, and it can obviously be explored it relative safety, too, given the station's at Maia.

I don't know how near it is to you, but there is a black hole in Maia.

One way to find black holes is to filter the galaxy map to only show non-sequence stars. This will narrow it down to black holes and neutron stars. Then zoom out a bit and move the cursor around. When you notice a system name pop up, this will be a system with one of those as a primary star.

And if you go to a Neutron Star system, throttle down to zero during the FSD countdown. Otherwise bad things may happen. :)

V616 Mon. It's closest. Also, read the Exporation threads; they have amazing advice. So does Bongo, Alicorn, and others. Oh, and if you find my dear Insectoid pal Rajjaq clinging to your windscreen tell her I want my coffee maker back!

Maia's rubbish, the surrounding sky is too dark. I found one 5 jumps from Robigo, I'll post later where it is (I'm at work).

Oh, and Storm Valkyrie...

Sorry for having to ask but what exactly is "the bubble"?

Populated space; about 19,000 systems.

If you zoom all the way out of the galaxy map, the bubble is less than a pixel across. Space is big.

so how do you know when you are outside of the bubble? Is the bubble something you can visibly see in the galaxy map??

You can also use the Powerplay option to have a somewhat easier view of the bubble. And Maia is close and has a black hole, but more so than that they have O class star systems fairly close to Maia. Use your map filters for star class and look for O class stars, these systems are typically loaded the the gills and a sight to see. Lastly another nearby treat for the eyes is Betelgeuse which is a Red Super Giant Its roughly a 500ly trip.

Yea please let me know where. Have seen some awesome images of some and we want to go to the great annihilator but not quite prepared for that quest yet lol
Ok, found it. 27 Gamma Cassiopeiae- about 560LY from me, at Qa'Wakana near the starter systems

There's a bright B class star, a black hole and a neutron star. Good view of Barnard's Loop through the lensing too. Have fun ;)
