Newcomer / Intro wanted bounty broken ? explain it to me.

Can some please explain this and tell me if they think it's broken.

I'm in a res shooting wanted ships and there is 1 system clan that dont like me and they appear red straight away.

i click next highest threat and mostly scan them with the warrant scanner but sometimes i just forget or need to kill them because there are so many and click next hostile and shoot or the turret hits them before i scan.

I end up with 200cr bounty and the fed are after me too.

Do people think like me and think that if they are red on scanner they are fair game and no wanted status?

it is a 'sort of' bug I guess. If they are red, it suggests your ship's AI at least has identified them as hostile / attacking you. And the turret responds to the AI. It's a bit like the penalty for shooting before scanning for wanted - I would say that was your call / risk. But there are many threads on that issue so prob best not to pursue.

edit: On further thought, given that you have absolutely no control over your ship's AI in the game - it really must be considered a bug when the turret alone has fired.

It could be, perhaps, that you are unfriendly with that particular faction but the ship in question is clean?

Therefore you have no right opening fire otherwise you will be classed as a pirate and a bounty is placed on you.

If they fire on you first then you should be ok as you have a right to defend yourself (and they will get the bounty and become wanted, if you are clean that is).

The logic is a little counter-intuitive as a red/unfriendly should be hostile but if they are not firing at you and you fire first and they are clean, then that's the outcome.

I'm speculating here though based on my experiences so far. I've never had this happen to me before because I like to only manually select bad people to fight.

Youi also need to make sure that you have 'Report Crimes against Me' set to 'On'. If it isn't then any ship that attacks you will not incur a penalty or 'Wanted' status.
If you return fire however - you will attract such.
I know - it's a ain't it?

Well, you can be hostile with the Federation, so any ship allied to a Fed faction would be red.

It's not a bug, it's being lazy using turrets set to "fire at will" that's the problem here. switch them to "target only" if you must use them.

Turrets were set to target only, issue is when i target a red to scan them the turret rip into them before the scan finishes.

Agreed, i think thats the issue, in that case i think you should be allowed to declare an individual war against that faction to avoid this?
Something very like that is coming in 1.3 in a couple of weeks - the Powerplay features allow you to declare for a particular Power in populated space. Any ships from opposing factions will be bounty-free if you kill them in your faction's systems.

I don't know if this will work for non-Power factions though.

Turrets are a bit dodgy though. I far prefer gimballed weapons to turrets as they only fire when I pull the trigger.
