Hi, maybe i missed something in the new release, but prior to that when BH if you accidently hit a Fed you jumped out waited 6 mins came back and paid your fine. was working the CG earlier when this happened, but now i just have a bounty against me with no obvious time limit. i visited the local systems to try to pay it off but no joy so far. any hints would be welcome so i can get back to hunting

Bounties don't have a timer, after the update. Instead, you need to find the interstellar factors and pay off the bounty. You can't do it in the station where you're wanted, because you are locked out of services.
To add to what Chris Simon said, you have to go to an Interstellar Factor to pay off bounties now. They never expire. Interstellar Factors can be found in Low Security systems -- check the Galaxy map for something called "Broker Network" at the station.
And if you have a notoriety of more than 0 you have to wait for 2 hours for each point of notoriety to decay (check your right panel, statistics, under Crime, to see your notoriety). That's 2 hours of in-game time. Logged off doesn't count.
Notoriety goes up when you kill a clean ship, or one you haven't scanned. It's sort of like a murder counter.
Someone made this flowchart to attempt to sort things out -- it's MORE complex than the old system.

As artigan said, you only gain notoriety if you kill a clean ship.
Can you post a picture of your bounty from your ship's transactions tab, and a screen of the interstellar factors? And a shot of your notoriety (right hand panel, stats).

Hi Vindelanos - kids hogging the system at the moment but if i remember correctly at the Int Stel the bounty was showing "Red" in colour but unable click on it. i did not check Notoriety as didnt think for just clipping an NPC it was an issue. will check all again later - Thanks everyone

my issue is sim. im wanted for 200cr accidently hitting a none wanted target that ran into the path of my shots. interstellar factors i use previously is no longer were it was. went to another IF paid off everything. ship is still wanted. i do still have a list of bounties on my panel. though in a system im currently in i am not wanted. but while i was in my srv and recalled my ship. my ship is tagged as wanted. security ships that i have let fin the scan just say, standard we didn't find any bla de bla .
am i missing something. its really a pain not knowing why i can't get rid of this fine. death pen for 200cr. this is not a fair crime fits punishment scenario.

Dude, you folks really need to post some structured screenshots.
I am, this is an issue for me too.
Know a couple of people who have these bounties, does not seem to be a major problem from what we can tell, no station access issues etc. The only way it seems can lose it is getting killed by a player pledged to the power you have your bounty with.
I had this problem playing on Xbox One and reset the system to clear it and was able to pay the fine. Hold down start button for 6 seconds to shut down. Not sure what the equivalent function will be for PC or PS4.
