Wanted bounty out of whack

Do what I do if you accidentally grazed a ship: get me a noobship, go out, selfdestruct.
Or wait for the cops to finally scan and kill me.
That solves the wanted.

ADDENDUM: I always end up with fines from suicide cop jockeys, that find it oh so funny for thrusting into my line of fire, coming out of the blue.
Maybe, they should be fined and placed a bounty upon, even if it was for stealing my "ammo". :( lol

Can I just say learn to shoot straight. I am a bounty hunter and have not hit a single innocent ship since Alpha, even in combat zones I have never had a stray bullet or laser hit a friendly. The bounty system is fine as it is, people just need to focus more and know when to ease off on the trigger to let a friendly pass between the target and their ship.

The problems you state just seem too unrealistic to be actual problems. Also see my previous posts.

Quite the opposite, they are not unrealistic but would happen all the time. It would become the most common combat related problem.

Current implemantation:
Someone attacks you, he gets wanted. You press "target highest threat" and defend yourself without a problem.

If I understood your idea correct the following should happen. Someone attacks you and he gets a fine instead of a bounty. Fines are not a free to kill status. This fine is shown nowhere except on the offenders transactions panel. Your friends and authorities don't see him as a criminal. If he continues to attack you he'll get wanted after a certain threshold and you (+wing members/authorities) are free to kill him. You have 3 options:
a) Wait until he gets wanted. That leaves you at an disadvantage because he can inflict more damage before you defend yourself.
b) Defend yourself immediately. You'll get a fine because technically you are attacking a clean target. You are lucky because he gets over the threshold before you. He is a wanted criminal and authority will help killing him.
c) Defend yourself immediately. You'll get a fine because technically you are attacking a clean target. You are unlucky because you get over the threshold before him. You are a wanted criminal and authority will help him killing you.

Note that c) would be a perfect griefing mechanic. Attack someone and wait until he defends himself. Stop firing and wait until your victim gets wanted. a) would be a perfect reason for rant&rage threads....

There's a very simple solution to all this which would avoid the hassle of damaging security ships in RES sites and such, while leaving players open to retaliate to attacks. Make it so that bounties are applied either on destruction of an NPC, or for use of a cargo hatch breaker, but they are applied for any damage done to a commanders vessel. Stray shots against security ships in a RES are now meaningless, but players are still able to defend themselves from attack instantly.

This is my #1 gripe with the game, and apparently a number of other bounty hunters agree. But then, there's always a few folks chiming in from the opposite end.

I really dislike the fact that this forces an interruption in my game play for "minor" issues - I've got to run out, can't redeem my own bounties, that's that, but the fact that I have a certain amount of time available for playing Elite and that costs a significant part of that for no good reason is hugely annoying. And no, the "hah, buy a cheap sidewinder to get blown up in so the bounty goes away" is not a solution, it merely illustrates how ridiculous the issue is.

What happened to me yesterday was that after an engagement in which I didn't end up shooting anyone wrongly - and then one of the system authority vessels that had taken a beating from the pirate we just destroyed and didn't have enough shields left went on the "scan then ram" spree and my evasive action was a little too slow, got itself blown up, and I suddenly had a 5k murder bounty on my head. I ended up switching systems for bounty hunting in for a bit.

Seriously. This makes no f'ing sense.
