Wanted for assault when shooting a wanted ship

While hunting in RES I sometimes become wanted but I don't always understand why.

I know that I have to wait until a scan finishes. But when it already displays that a ship is wanted I am still not allowed to attack?
I am 100% sure that I attacked a ship that showed wanted, but I still got a 200 bounty for assault.

Please explain..

Maybe you hit another ship accidentally... Maybe 100 % sure wasn't enough (gosh... those milliseconds) :)
How should anyone be able to explain without witnessing?

Well if the concensus is that this is not normal, that would some good feedback as well.

Yes I am 100% sure. Easy because there was only one ship (left) at that moment.

I believe (not 100% sure) that the ship was part of a wing of 3 ships (2 sidewinders and 1 clipper).
I dispatched of one sidewinder and the clipper, and when I attacked the last sidewinder this happened.

Just theory-crafting here:
Could it be that the last sidewinder attacked and hit me (as revenge for killing its wingmen), and because of that it displays as wanted, but when I attacked it (possibly before a full scan), the game (incorrectly) registers this as an assault?

Just the reason, why the 7 day bounty lock in 1.3 sucks major balls. That res and all other in that system would be doomed for bounty hunting for 7 days. This bug happens so frequently, that a CG might render useless for someone not being able to fight in systems nearby. It might even make you renegade in that CG system.
