Wanted for killing a guy I didn't "kill".

With the current system the FDL could have High-waked out of the RES after doing 99.9% of the damage to the miner, thus escaping the one week wanted status, while I who had unknowingly shot the miner ( probably causing less than 1% damage ) would take the full blame.Does that sound like a fair system to you?

Yeah, because you could have done the very same thing. Get tagged as wanted, stow weapons, and low wake at least. These are the rules. We are all subject to them. We have all been aware of how things work for more than two years. I've seen no complaint from you on these rules, until you got some on your foot.

These rules are the only real test for BH'ing in a RES. Without the restrictions, and consequences posed there would be nothing to keep RES sites from being truly just shooting fish in a barrel.

Bottom line? Control your trigger, or the authorities will do that for you.

Nobody said the law was fair Snake. (The friendly fire regulations are brutal but easy to understand).

Do you think it is fair that a station can, and will, destroy you for 'Loitering'?

Trigger control is every Commander's responsibility.

You're the first one to get the reference in my name. +Rep

I guess you're right but I still think it need some rework

Maybe you should be able to atone for your sins by rescuing his escape pod and returning him to a station.

A station that is aligned to him of course.

Ive had similar things happen but when my pulse lasers were malfunctioning, obviously i couldnt stop shooting so when the NPC flew through my lasers i got wanted. NPC then boosted off and smacked an asteroid meaning i got a murder charge.

I had a similar thing happen in Othel over a week ago, stray round hit a pirate that I hadn't previously scanned, then the police blew him away, and awarded the kill to me for some strange reason. Bounty on my head for just under a week. Funny how they awarded the kill to me, despite my shots doing little if any damage, but it never actually works like that when it comes to getting a legit kill. If you want a legit reward for killing a pirate, a stray round generally won't get it done, you have to really let them have it.

This game really does troll sometimes!

That was a specific change made by FD for the players. At release you had to get the kill shot on a target to be awarded the bounty. There was a high incidence of NPC's kill stealing from Commanders. Now we just have to have caused damage, to get preference over an NPC. The only advice available is: As soon as you get tagged as Wanted, stow your weapons, and jump out ad soon ad possible.

When OP's scenario happens to me:

1. I dont make a thread about it.
2. I fly to a different solar system for a week.
I made this thread mostly because I wanted to see what FD thought about the current system and if there were any announced plans to change it.
And yes I could fly to a different system ( that's what I did ) but I wanted to participate in the CG.

Actually I rescind my comment about not making threads. Everyone has the right and freedom to post whatever they want.

"Accidental" firing on clean targets used to be a regular occurrence for me while bounty hunting. The NPC piloted SLF reduced that issue to nil. Fixed weapons are helpful too. It would be nice if the law enforcement system was a bit more lenient sometimes. But I assume FD left the mechanics that way to give us some danger.

So I was hunting pirates at a RES in Abroin when I saw a wanted FDL in a wing of three.I scanned all 3 of them and started attacking the FDL which was previously attacking a nearby miner. As we were fighting , the FDL used a chaff making my multicannons to lose focus for a few seconds and shoot a few stray bullets. One of those must have hit the miner the FDL was attacking before, which in turn must have had taken a lot of damage from the FDL, delivering this way the final blow and giving me a wanted status for 5 days. Now I can't participate in the CG because one of my bullets happend to hit a nearby ship with low health...How is that fair?

Seems fair to me, a man died out there, an innocent man and it was your fault:)

I agree with above. In fact I have only just paid off a murder charge myself that happened in pretty much the same way as the OP describes. It happens man - so what? I'm careful but circumstances and random chaos stuff gets you sometimes. There is no way that FD can determine intent. What if it were deliberate on your part? No matter how they handle it, if they try to handle it then there will be exploits and the griefers will have a field day with it. Just take it on the chin, man up, and move on. "Fair" - pfft - meaningless word in the context of a PvE game. "Balance" means something - "fair" does not. And in your case (and mine, and anybody else's as well) this is just the way it is.

And actually, you don't have to leave the system or CG or whatever. Just play in HazRes's and sneak into the station.

I participated in last weeks trade CG with an in system murder bounty without problems. If it matters, I was allied the faction.
