Wanted...is there any way to know why?

I just opened ED and found myself Wanted status 6K bounty from a faction.

Last thing I remember I was supposed to get rebel transmissions I think for this same faction. But I got caught because I botched the entry in the station.
I think I paid the fine now I get slapped with a wanted as well. I gave they the transmissions and got paid.

Is there any way to find out why is there a bounty on your head?

Thanks!

Did you accidentally shoot a federal ship while dogfighting a pirate? That will get you wanted, though the fine is only a few hundred credits. What irritates me is that you then have to leave the area completely. The only way I've been able to go back, say to a nav beacon, is to go dock and pay the fine.

No didn't hit any security force I would know pretty sure if i did. Also the bounty was (I paid it now I hate bounty on my head) not with the local security but with the pilots federation-so not a fine and also by the same faction I helped I think.

Sounds like you didn't pay the fine afterall - a fine becomes a bounty after being unpaid a while. But the "why there is bounty", nope... no idea how to find out exact reason.

There isn't a way to know why you have a bounty. That would be a nice feature. The amount makes me suspect that it's for MURDER. Do you scan ships with a kill warrant scanner? I could see unintentionally getting a murder charge by scanning a 'clean' ship and finding they have a bounty then killing them. Even though they have a bounty elsewhere, in the local system you are murdering a clean ship.

Unless the implement a log there is no way to know. Here are some possibles.

Failed a mission then failed to pay a fine
Murder
Scanned with stolen goods then failed to pay the fine

From what you say the most likley explanation is that you got scanned with the stolen rebel transmissions, then failed to pay the fine within 24 hours.

There is a 24hr limit to pay the fine? Didn't know that.

Could be that or failed the mission because I got scanned with their illegal cargo.
They did pay me on delivery though.

Thanks guys will be more watchful next time.
BTW I botched the entry because I parked about 6km from the station while I took a phone call. Then I saw that I was scanned. Next time usual tactic silent run and dash into port.
