Wanted Passenger = negative rep?

Just handed in a simple wanted passenger mission (ice cold 50 ly DBX with a fuel scoop generally equals an uneventful trip) and I noticed that I actually lost standing with the faction that issued the mission. It happened to be the controlling faction of the orbital and the system, but that does seem counter intuitive...
 
Were you allied before? If you get deep into friendly status (75% toward allied), your rep will decay naturally. If it was a long sightseeing/tourist mission then your rep probably decayed naturally if it was really high.

The other possibility is that you failed missions from that same faction in the meantime.

The faction that issued the mission itself? yeah that sounds odd.
Are you sure it isn't the faction you delivered the passenger to? missions aren't always a win win for factions can harm the receiving faction.
 
It was a sightseeing tour, so the Criminal Mastermind was returned from whence she came :) Perhaps the Travel Co-ordinator was hoping we'd get blown up and wasn't pleased to see her return. I may have cancelled one mission for that faction while I was out and about, so perhaps that was it, but I thought that sort of thing (and time decay) happened without you getting a red mark in the rep bar when you cashed other missions in?

More experiments required perhaps.
 
Rep with minor factions never decays, so it wouldn't be that.

If you cancelled a mission with them not long earlier, that might explain it. The red bar was noting you had gone down from the cancelled mission; the positive rep from completing the mission hadn't kicked in yet. I have noticed some lag with the rep from completed missions not getting added until the next 10-minute server tick-over.
