Wiki should be a helpful starting point:

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Merits

There are specific combat zones, specific cargo to be trucked/pirated and specific ships to be killed.

The fastest way I have found is to find an Anarchy system in a hostile powers space (in this case I'd check out Hudson/Winters territory), go there and go to the Nav beacon. Take on the powerplay enemy ships like "Federal Logistics" for 30 merits a time iirc then get out quick before the bounty hunters and everyone else starts attacking you. Re-enter and repeat.
I'd take either a fast or well defended ship to those, it's not somewhere you want to be caught out without an escape method.

The specific combat zones in the expansion systems work for any combat ship really, just gotta use the usual tricks of staying away from the main battle and picking off the weak/isolated targets. Trading is slow and somewhat painful as you have to wait for a cargo allowance or pay to have it become available faster. It's by far the safest method if you don't have say a Vulture/FDL or stronger combat ship.

OP states: "I've been doing missions for Ailing Duval and I havn't got any merits atm".

I certainly hope that whatever ails Duval is not fatal, it would set off a war of succession!

Hello Nettie

Aisling is not a combat oriented power. That said, you can get merits by combat but you really need to just deliver her propaganda materials. Expensive and a drag. Shield really are nice though. Be sure to have plenty of credits to buy as many sizes as you will ever need unless you plan to stay pledged.

Go to her headquarters in Cubeo, see the power contact, get the free tons of her fortification data or whatever it is, then buy (fasttrack) more to fill up your ship and carry it to her nearest control system, which you find under the fortification tab on her galactic powers page. There's no point in doing that until week 4 if you're only after prismatic shields. The merit points you get are halved each week, so any you get now won't count towards your rank 3 in week 5.

Well said,

Frankly the rep decay is ridiculous. I would like to pick a power and stay pledged and work casually at it, but it is not worth it. I keep my Princess pledge only because I have not aquired all the shields I want and I can ramp up in a week. Please Fdev, rethink the terrible rep decay and the then high cost of keeping at least a level 3 rating. this might not be too bad with powers that are more combat oriented, but with the Princess the cr layout is ridiculous. Why not change the decay rate based on time of pledge? I don't know, but I do know that the current system sucks.

Well .....I will definitely do that instead..... Thanks CMDR Ebel......

I did Follow CMDR Alex Brentnall advice ....I killed a federal Agent in Winters territory and now I have a bounty at 6500 credits and I didn't get any merits [where is it][down][sour] ....I don't think I will do that in a hurry again....[blah]

Thanks CMDR

Ah damnit, sorry. I'm back too late. I mixed up Aisling Duval and Arissa Lavigny Duval... Sorry, silly mistake, should have known better to post at 7am half asleep :(

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Why-the-heck-should-I-work-for-Aisling-Duval

Excuse me whilst I hide in the shadows in shame.

As has been said the best way is to get media materials from the power contact in your Power's home system. Each power names this a bit differently, can't recall what the older Duvall calls them. You then look at the Power Play board for your pledged power and find a system that they are expanding into - just look at the list and pick the closest one. Then take your media materials (again whatever they are called) to a station in that system and again go to Contacts - Power and unload them.

Another important thing - you can't get the Power Play module (shield/weapon/etc) until you've been pledged for 4 weeks. So during your 3rd week, before midnight Wednesday night (game/UTC time) make sure you've done your 750 merits - that will then put you at Rank 3 which is what's needed to buy the module you want. If you do 750 merits in week one they will be halfed at week 2 and again at week 3. If you do them during week 3 you'll start week 4 at Rank 3, you can buy your module and then defect.

What I did was buy the module, say 2-6 of them depending, store them then defect. For example I got 1 FSD missile, a Prismatic shield in every size, 6 Packhound missiles, etc. I figured I might go nuts and slap 6 Packhounds on my Anaconda sometime, they are so damn fun to fire. I'm just about to get the Pacifier Frag Cannon from Hudson which will complete every Power Play module for me - well save for the mining lance, I mean really - do I care about that?!?

As has been said Fastracking your media materials is the fastest way but it's, in typical Frontier fashion, a grindy long process as you can only Fast track 10 at a time, and they are $10,000 - each. So 750 merits will cost you roughly $7.5M then the cost of the module(s). Oh and FYI once you've unlocked the module you can buy it at any station that has outfitting, period (you do get the 10% discount at Li Yong Rui stations though). Oh and once you defect you can't buy them any more unless you pledged and waited the month again (and did merits). So buy what you want and store while you can.

Make sense? Also realize that each module has a up and down side, the Prismatics are strong but are double the weight of a standard shield...

So, can I. In the Beginning Of the 2nd week of pledge to Aisling Duval. Start delivering of Her Programme Materials to her closest fortification systems that she has? I know you said during the 3 week. But just wanted to know if I need to anything in week 2.....

Thanks for your tips on this too CMDR Exigeous [big grin][up][praise] ..... Also do I have to pay over $7 mil or more to pay for more than 700merits of Aisling Duval Programme Materials in the 3rd week too as I would in week one cause that's so crazy hey[weird]... if I have too though that is to get my Prismatic shields....

Thanks CMDR Exigeous
