Wanting to upgrade to Alpha but no discount ?

I thought I would bite the bullet and upgrade from Premium Beta to Alpha as itching to see latest build and want to be able to contribute to a game I loved in the 80's and cannot wait to see reborn...so..

Off I went to the store and put Alpha in cart..I go through the stages of the checkout waiting for it to knock off the £100 already invested to get to Prem Beta.. I originally bought digi download, expansion pack and £15 on top to go from standard beta to Prem beta like most did.

I can go all the way to the Paypal screen and it is still trying to charge me £200 rather than £100

So in those immortal words ... HHEEEELLLPPPP !!! ... and hope to god the quote of "no one can hear you scream in space" does not apply here :p

People have pointed this out in a few threads (like the one about the Alpha upgrade discount), the response has been to contact support:

You should contact store support - support@zaonce.net

I noticed that in the email that (stupidly) announced that the Premium Beta Process has started (it hasn't, we've been given an old Alpha build, you'd think they'd want that to be clear) they said this about Alpha upgrades:

If you want to upgrade to Alpha and play multiplayer today, please contact customer support to receive a discount code.

So, yea, email support support@zaonce.net

Surprised its not sorted, they must have expected a surge of people giving into temptation and I must admit the Premium Beta early access bit was misleading as I thought would be more up to date as was itching to see how fast I could dock into a station LOL but what the hell, waited 30 years although back then I didn't have a missus that thinks I've lost the plot LOL.

Does seem to be getting very confusing, even messy for people. Now many have no idea what they are going to be getting..if upgrade to Alpha do we get the goodies on the list including hard copy of game rather than digital download etc ?

Me thinks someone in marketing needs to spend Monday sorting out the store and posting some official clarification as many are from UK, have cars n tents and Cambridge is just down the road..Im sure they don't want their front lawn invaded :p

What makes ED different from other games is 80% of us putting in the money are original 80's players and are passionate about the game being resurrected unlike other games such as SC which is just a new game...so far they look to have captured the awe and fun of the original and its looking amazing...They do need to remember though that most of us are not kids anymore and take the game launch very seriously..too serious if ask missus :)

We all want it to succeed, we all want to go back to the 80's feel, hell of an order to meet but there doing it so please GOD don't screw it up by messing up the marketing !!!!

I think that depends on how you define the Beta process. Clearly, FD define it as "Premium Beta pledgers are now playing an early build". PBeta backers are also taking part in the game development process, even if that part is just to suggest gameplay improvements or to reiterate points already raised by Alpha backers. It all provides valuable feedback for FD.

Of course, FD *could* have given PBeta backers nothing at this point & made them wait until the first Beta build is ready, but given the complexity of the game & the need to get to grips with controls, controllers, & game mechanics this might have been short-sighted of them - PBeta would have a shorter useful lifespan if players spent half of it learning to play.

I'm rather looking forward to the game going retail, when I shall park my ship in a starter station & be entertained by complete newbies' first attempts to launch, etc. If you hear someone laughing then, it will be me. :D

I don't think Leonick is complaining..Im happy to have at least a taste and its given me the incentive to go Alpha so must be good..think the point is ALOT of people who took advantage of the upgrade to Prem Beta expected to have more than an VERY old version with little support for hardware addons to mess around with..SP version of A3 would have been perfect even was only just the missions but at least the forum wouldn't be filling up with problems that have long since been solved in builds after 1.1

The impression I get is a lot feel that it was a marketing ploy to get an advance on funds that otherwise would have come in on May 30th which is a little worrying..Im sure that's not the case and FD where just being nice and much appreciated though can I have compensation for a broken mouse cos I hit it to hard last time I took a beam laser in the face LOL.

Either way ED looks bloody amazing, only other game that's made me so engrossed was Everquest and that's being reborn as Everquest Next so life is good and Im happy to keep getting beam lasered till May 30th though if they sort out the upgrade im going to be ramming those space stations ASAP :)
