WAR! - Attacking enemy installations

I've recently been engaged in a War between Federation forces in the Sudz system and enemy Alliance forces. I don't often fly to enemy installations and attack them but after twice knocking out the required amount of power systems (8/8), faction Influence went up as did my Reputation and something else.

My question is - if I keep repeating this am I effectively contributing towards my side winning the war...or am I wasting my time?

I've also engaged in Conflict Zones.

How much do you need to do before you see you're making a difference?

That nice, but you have forget one important detail, the Alliance faction you are fighting against is actually a player faction, ours to be more precise, so unless you manage to come with a massive load of random Fed, given the current war score, the war should likely end today with an Alliance victory.

Always check first if the faction engaged in a war is a player faction or NPC, if you side with an NPC faction against a player faction, chance are high that you will have to face severe disappointment at the end.

I didn't forget anything, I wasn't with that knowledge to begin with and assumed everything was NPC since I'm in solo mode. Thanks for your reply, I'll double check time next, I had no idea there was a crossover.

Inara will tell you if a faction is a player faction, an NPC faction, or even an NPC faction backed by a player group, with the name of the player squadron associated to it.

Remember, even factions with no "official" player affiliation might be backed by other players, even individual players without squadrons.

If you decided to "bring order" to certain anarchist systems, for instance, I know a few player groups that would resist that. Same as if you go after a communist faction in any system where Communism Interstellar operates - regardless of whether it's an "NPC faction" or not.
Player-created factions aren't any more special than procedurally-generated ones, they're just more likely to have a player group backing them.

As for your original question - this sounds like an installation scenario, not a conflict zone, which don't have as much bearing on who wins the war as CZs do.
It's normal for a scenario to end with influence and reputation messages - you usually get an increase for the faction you were supporting and a decrease for the faction you were attacking.
