War Thunder

I think this may be a good place to post this due to E: D and the high ratio of Oculus users on these boards too.

Any War Thunder players?

Myself, I'm a casual player - I don't do arcade battles, I do semi realistic with a HOTAS and die (a lot) - probably to mouse users, they get an easier flying/aiming experience, but I prefer a more realistic experience. I'm aiming to graduate to full realistic, but was kinda waiting for Oculus Rift because I think that will seriously help....

Anyway, I'd like to fly with like minded wingmen, air combat is the kind of thing where it helps to fly in groups, so are there any WT players out there?

Hey Kipper!

I fly as Helmut Icicle (points for getting where that name comes from) on a very casual basis, almost always arcade though I've occasionally dipped in to realistic battles. Never in tanks though as that doesn't appeal.

Not much cop in planes to be brutally honest, but I have a laugh - especially when I get ninjad by the stealth mountains or trees (oh, ok, I flew too low or mis-judged the turn).

Quite enjoy the game though the pay to win aspect, as well as the mouse user advantage does spoil it a tad. Frankly Gaijin have about the worst F2P model going, but what the hell, it's a laugh when I want something different.

For a real war game, with real adrenaline rushes, I'd recommend WWII Online, btw.

Good hunting!

Warthunder since very early.

Mouse aim only gives advantage in Arcade mode. In the other two, good joystick flying will win hands down. It's like everything, if you aren't a natural, then practice practice practice. :)

Am part of the Erin Navy Marine Corps [ENMC], we've get best squad in nearly every match (Arcade) we've played since that feature was introduced in the last main patch.

Flying with your mates and using the radio chatter is awesome!

Took the plunge into full realistic tonight to get away from the mouse aimers (they exist in semi real too!)

It's still brutal as anything, can't seem to do much in a fighter yet - I did get one extremely satisfying kill where I got on the back of a fighter who was preoccupied with a bomber, quick burst of the 20mm cannon and took his wing off :)

Had some pretty good success in the bombers, they are much harder for people to take down with a lucky shot, and they have turrets to shoot back with. Just got the first Wellington, thanks to a round that included 3 AI bots which all lined up astern in their biplanes at the same time so 3 easy kills for the tail gun and a few on-target bombs = very big points haul :)

After almost a year I'm doing ok with Joystick in Arcade Battles. I'm one of the founding members of the Joystick Bar Steward Squadron (renamed for board censor) over there.

I'm doing ok. Aced (fully modded) 196 airplanes. Personally I think it's a great game that just needs joystick separation from mouse aim in the same battles to allow for playing in an even playing field. The FM and DM's are completely different between the two with mouse aim intended to encourage casual gamers to play.

After playing with joystick wobble all those months ED combat seems like a walk in the park :).

Quality game, the UI works fairly well now in the rift if you up the menu text size. It used to make things a bit frustrating before 1.40 when the menus were acting wonky.

This past few months, I've been having a lot of fun with WT.

I just love climbing up as high as my spitfire will go and diving onto unsuspecting victims :)

The full freedom of vision helps you keep an eye out all directions, sometimes shake them off your tail.

Incredible graphics, I am sure it will do really well over the coming years. Can't wait for bomber cockpits.
