Newcomer / Intro War with a Player supported faction

So i was mining quietly, but somehow that plat hotspot was not so good, those big roids spinned too fast, and the one i've found with whole 4 subsurface deposits was seemingly bugged, as i could never hit any of them with sub missile. And i thought, what if i engage into a war instead. I've browsed proxy wars. Found an intresting one where apparently a player supported faction was losing influence in a system, guess they slacked, and lost it to the point when one of Imp factions is at war with them. Looks good, i might help em a little.

According to Inara, if this faction is losing, they're losing an Ody settlement, if they win - they get an outpost control. Question is actually here. First of all, war is not exlusively in space, ground matters do have an impact? How exactly (if somehow) those surface CZ wins count (if they count) and do they have any influence at that war? Another question, do i need to fight exlusively in this one settlement they got to lose if they lose, or i can fight in the others that are nearby (other planets, same system)?

You don't need to do your fighting in or near the settlement that is at stake. Any conflict zone (CZ) in the system will do. (Unless it's for a different war. There can be two or three wars in a system at the same time so check which factions are fighting in the CZ before you leap in.)

Two things count in wars, number of battles won and value of combat bonds claimed. Odyssey on-foot conflict zones do exist. I assume that battles won there count exactly the same as space ones.

Ok, thanks for that, your info plus a little forum search clarified that for me. I've ended up with taking part in another war, this time between two PMFs, as ppl seem not exactly loving them here, so not eating on npcs' stuff. Made a couple of space CZs and a couple of ground ones, now we'll see who of them wins. Looks like even if war is lost, losing faction can get a settlement, so will maybe see my ground CZs input as well.

Yes. Odyssey settlements operate on a bit of a different system than orbitals or planetary "stations" (the stuff that existed in Horizons).

Orbital stations that are "up for grabs" go to the winner at the end of the war, just as they always have.

At the same time, all of the Odyssey settlements that belong to the two factions at war will spawn ground CZs. Those are little individual battles. When the war ends, whichever faction won the most CZs in that settlement gains control of that settlement. (The "points" gained in that conflict go towards the overall score too).

So its entirely possible to have Faction A win a war, gain control over an orbital base, but at the same time lose all of its Odyssey settlements.

I've read on that since i posted and ye, it's an interesting system. I assume the amount of points is unknown? E. g. red team won a single space CZ and blue team won a single ground CZ and that's all - we know that Ody settlement is going to blue team, but we don't know if it's 1/1 or 1.5/1 or smth like that.

Yup. No way of knowing what the scores are, which I suppose gives people incentive to just keep pushing? 🤷‍♂️

Also, @Teiri - if you want to fight for a faction, you should come and fight with us! We just started a new squadron, and could use all the help we could get! :)

I'm currently in Colonia (with a carrier, so a while to go). It started as a journey there and back and i thought i return next week, but then i've found myself a little stuck there due to engi matters, as i discovered Ody engi over here are so welcoming and not requesting any opinion polls - should be back surely at some point, but not yet. I'm wandering mostly, sometimes here and there, but if i return in time i won't mind helping in a war. )
